In this month's Rod and Custom, the dream ride is a bubble top that's been switched out with something else (poncho?)
Anyway, I really want an chopped top, but the curved glass scares the hell out of me and pretty much anyone else i ask about cutting it.
Is there another roof option? [IMG]

Thats a '67 or so Impala roof I think. Doesn't it say? I had the issue but already took it to work and donated it.

I think it was a 67- should be easy to get ahold of, too [IMG]

it's funny. when i built my 65 i thought how nice it'd be to build one with a bubbletop roof! i think i prefer the bubbletop on a 61, but i won't say that i didn't like the idea. might be pretty cool. to be honest, i think a 65 roof would flow better and respect the good proportions of a 61. if ya want one, we're dealin! roof replacement can be just as tricky as a curved glass chop...you could always sink the glass, instead of cutting it for that application...i thought that dream car was ugly anyway...it seemed to take a cool 61 impala, and turn it into a more squarish late 60's car..just my 2cents.

your probably right as far as difficulty is concerned. Speed Addict sent me a link to a Japanese site that has two chopped Imp's; I don't know if they chopped too much or what, but I'm not diggin' the look [IMG]

I designed the car. and built it in scale. It's a '67 Impala roof. the toughest part was blending the roof into the trunk area. KK

Very kool work, man- your renderings and the model are awesome [IMG]
I think I should get a '62 model and play with it before I get to cutting on the real thing.
now where does one find a four door '62 Impala model? [IMG]

Try Model Haus, they're always advertising in the back of Scale Auto magazine. Are you thinking about grafting a '67 roof on a four door. You might consider a '67-'68 Impala four roofline. It's still sleek looking but should line up better with the A B & C pillars. KK
