What would you choose as your first hot rod project? make/model? engine combo? color?

I'd start with something with less rust and that's already driveable!!!:D

Shoebox, keep it a flattie, with some A/C. Thats a car I would never sell. I would just keep chopping or painting or putting in seats....you get the idea.

a 48 dodge. a friend of mine had one last year, sold it and i almost cried. just couldn't afford to have another vehicle or the room. but that's what i would choose if i had a choice now.

  9. im a ****er for this look. why dont we see many 27 T roadsters on 32 rails anymore?
if i could make this happen, i would. anybody want to buy my ****py projects so i can? lol.:D[IMG]

  10. I don't understand the logic of this post. the next project is always the best! you start fresh with the skills that you've gained from pryor projects.

Hey, Noname, understand your position, but some of us never have a "second chance" project. Some others have gotten themselves what seemed to be a good deal on a third or fourth choice vehicle and are now in too deep to back out.

For me, it would have to be an A coupe or an A pickup, no fenders, average chop, SBC with Hilborn stacks converted to EFI (sorry, just love the look and it has to be dead nuts reliable), Muncie or T-5. Still on original TTs or ET g***ers and 12-spokes (or maybe steelies).

Thanks for letting me daydream a little.

If I could do it all over again, I'd start with more cl***es from the masters.... Jesse James, Ron Covell, etc... THEN I'd buy a car, probably a 3w coupe.

For me it would be a '36 Plymouth or maybe a '47 Chrysler

  14. i agree with noname , my first project is long gone.....i'm more concerned by my next project. my next project i have the opportunity to correct anything i didn't like about my past projects

  15. I'm old enough now where next time I'm gonna keep an open mind and let the project find me. Something 2 door with a solid body is all I need.

Anything driveable, and work on it as I go. You can pick up alot of neat ideas as you go.

You mean the next one I guess? I can't imagine anybody saying they would do the first one again and that would be any different than what the next one will actually be.......................

make/model; 1929-1931 sedan/coupe body, don't have that yet, make wouldn't matter much. I have a Model A ch***is already. Motor, still shopping; a banger, a Chivvy 4 cyl, or a v8-60, whichever one presents itself first. color; Harvard Crimson

Any late 20s early 30s sedan a 4 cyl 2.0 or 2.3 ford 5 sp. as basic as hell. THEN I would start collecting all the other stuff I have but a basic simple runner would be my first build.

if i had to start all over again!..I wouldnt.
Ive already started over "again" like 2 or 3 times.
Ive only got so much patience. and not as many years left in me.

maybe im not reading this post right?
start over with a new project?.. Or start over from ground zero? as in no tools, no shop, no projects

the 2nd one is the one that would sink me..Ive been there 2 times already..thats enough

Agreed! I wouldn't change a thing, the experience and skill you gain from doing all the ****work on a major project is invaluable. It's like paying tuition at the school of hard knocks. At the end, you know how to fix all that **** (hopefully!) or at least how to avoid it on the next one!

I agree with Chaddilac & GR855. First project was a 63 Impala. My dreams exceeded my skills and wallet. I kept hearing the Beach Boys song "409" Well my "409" never made the road. Next two, 62 Impala & 41 Ford were drivers that I work on / upgrade during the winters here in PA.:D

Would I start again??? Nope, I'm pushing the big 60, I'd rather be behind the wheel than behind a wrench :D

I might be on the wrong thread here but anyway.I love Hot Rods and have a few but I like driving them not building them or really even working on them.I had a freind who liked rods so he went out and and got a loan then bought one just like he wanted .He
enjoyed the hell out of it .And when it wasn't fun anymore he sold it .He had fun his whole rodding career . I think that carries some weight .Maybe not for everyone but I bet for more than we want to admit .

I guess I was pretty lucky to find my first rod project,a 32 Ford 5window coupe. No rust, and old hot rod.But stupidity caused me to sell it.If I had to start over I would find my first love, a 32 3window coupe.I don't think I would have gotten rid of my 32 if it had been a 3 window to start with.Only this time I would build it better and not try to skimp on spending money on it like I did the first one.
