New guy from Philadelphia with an MG

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by 251 Garage, Jan 4, 2010.

  1. I've been lurking for awhile, admiring all of the fabrication and style of the projects on here. I'm currently building a 1958 MG Magnette, and putting a bunch of custom touches in while it comes together. The metalwork is already done, and the front-end redone.

I'm a British car guy but not it the stuffy, traditionalist sense. I think my car will piss a lot of people off at British car shows when it's done, but would fit in great at the local cruise night.

I like vintage accessories, rather than repro stuff. When I modify I try to do it the way it would have been done in the 50s/60s. My car will never have electronic ignition, it won't have a stereo, and its staying positive ground. It'll sit really low too.

I was thinking about posting a build thread. Would it be appropriate on the H.A.M.B.? I know an MG will never be a "traditional" custom, but I try to keep the same mentality. Anyway, here it is the day I picked it up a year ago, and where it stands today:

Hello from the Lehigh Valley. Really cool car. As a woodworker of sorts, I am very impressed with the dash. Those Brits know their way with wood.

    Cheerio, old bean.

Did MG use r-n-p in '58 or is that a retrofit?

BTW, hello from a former '65 Spitfire owner.

  18. It is stock. MG was using rack and pinion steering as early as 1950 in the first MG-TD's.

  24. Welcome from California! I though the MG a bit O/T but I've been working on them for 30 years just didn't spred it around this place too much. Great project.
