Planning on running a 6x2 cross-ram intake on my poncho motor. Have been leaning toward an automatic transmission on this one (TH-400). But I haven't messed with 6x2 intakes a whole lot to know how to treat it.

I'd love to see some pictures of 6x2 linkages/brackets that allow for the detent to work. Also interested in seeing how vacuum line to a cross-ram would work out....

I have a eelco progressive linkage and I'll be running ford 94s.

Any advice and or pics on the topic would be cool. Thanks.

    Hi,
I've had 6x2's, Ford and Holly 94's on a Edelbrock X1 with progressive linkage on my '34 Vicky for 30+ years and I've never had a problem. Got a Chevy motor but the carbs don't know the differance, so the Poncho should run fine. I run a B/W T10 4sp and 9" Ford rearend. Depending on how wild of a camshaft you are using the vacuum requirement could be an issue. Lots of solutions availible, pumps, transmission modifications etc.

Thanks. I'm more interested in seeing what solutions people have come up with as far as bracketry and such to make the automatic setup work well.

Not too worried about the actual 6x2 setup and carbs. I know that will work, haha.

Every TH400 I've seen uses an electric switch to activate the kickdown feature, and many of them are actuated by the throttle pedal linkage underneath the dashboard. Shouldn't be difficult, no matter how many carburetors you're running.

talk to coldwar.........oh sorry forgot he has been banned. He helped me out with a 6X2 crossram on my poncho motor. we used two sets of eelco 3x2 linkage for mine. crossram likes idle circuits intact. you will need to tune each carb seperatly. the linkage ****ed *** ! ! had to **** around with it extensively to make it work. coldwar spent many hours on his clock lathe makin ****.

end result was VERY rewarding.....check it out for yourself

^Yup, what Heathen said. Go find a TH400 car (BOP and Caddies from the mid 70's and below would be good choices) and grab the linkage under the dash. It's just a simple slide switch- it'll all make sense when you see it.
BTW- I'd love to see that manifold on the Poncho mill! Got pix?

cool vid. Where do you live? Looks like the midwest. I'm pretty sure Coldwar was here in Ohio if I remember right. What the heck did he ever do to get banned. Seemed like a real nice guy the times that I talked to him.

In my '57 I have a TH400 and used the kickdown switch mounted on the intake from a '70 Vette.

The Hemi in the bubbletop is such a torque monster that I haven't really needed a kickdown. When I put my foot to the floor it just keeps going faster. The Turbo 400 that Dave (shifts) built for me does have an electric kickdown, I have it all wired up to a switch hooked to the gas pedal, but I haven't really worried about adjusting it so it works because, so far, I haven't experienced a need for it....
