I figure some of you have used one of these in the past and I was unaware of them until recently.

I am replacing the pan gasket on my 302 with a one piece gasket because of a bad fitting old style 4 piece cork and rubber gasket set.

The question is should I use a sealer on this type of gasket,,it's all rubber.HRP

Hi, i have used the Fel-Pro one piece gaskets for a while now on SBC race engines.
I like them, i dont use any glue on them, and have re-used some of them several times after cleaning them.
They seem to hold up really well.

Been using them for a while and never used sealer on them, with no leak's.

Those one-piece neoprene gaskets are the ****s!! They're not cheap, but they're worth every penny IMHO. And they come with those neat little gasket/pan clips that hold everything in place while you're laying on your back, alone in the shop. Got mine (for an early 327) at NAPA, and they sold me the wrong one the first time ... so make sure you got the right one! Instructions called for just a dab of silicone in each of those little recesses on either side of the crank, front and rear. No mas. And it's working like a champ. I went through a couple of iterations of the old 4-piece models and had repeated seeps. Spend the $35 and get the good one!

We use a bunch of them and we use red rtv just in the corners of the rear main cap and the timing cover. Never had one leak unless it was overtightened. Snug bolts until gasket just starts to move and go 1/4 turn.

I don't put anything on them. I like to reuse them, that's why I buy em'. If it leaks you did something wrong.

Just thinking more about this, I was motorcycle roadracing for years and bikes always had these type of gaskets.... never any leaks.... i always wondered why nobody made them for cars.

LATE to the party ... ( you most likely have already installed the oil pan by now  ) but I use them on every engine I build ( But I only build Chevy engines :) ). Never used any type of sealer or glue with the one piece gasket. I like the Fel-Pro brand.

NEVER had a leak ... so far.

Glad to know you are making progress on Brenda's wagon :D :D

I'm glad to hear it, too!!!

FWIW, I used a tiny dab of sealer in the corners on my SBC and it's working great.

Now get back out there in the shop!
