hi guys im building a 1958 apache suburban, anyone else out there building or built a burb lets see them
been building my 57 for a long time....not much to show though. I think there are some old pics on my web page.
Hopefully I'll be driving this one in 2010. It was my dads, he got it in 1983, had put 100,000+ miles on it driving it most every day from 83 till about 92 when he had taken it to a body shop to be redone. Well while it was in the shop, dad built a 29 model A town delivery and when the panel was finally finished he had lost interest in it, he was also upset that the body shop painted the dark brown stripes/trim....it was supposed to be copper or gold. He brought it home from the body shop and put it in his barn....sat there intil I got it from him a couple years ago!!! Loads of dust still on it when I got it home. This one was built for the U.S. Government. There is a tag riveted to the dash that tells all about it, the contract number, batch number etc.
Are you commenting on my 57? If so, I'm not sure it's worth fixin, thought I'd take the visor off and scrap the rest. Hell it's just some big old truck...
There aren't any words in the english language more offensive than "and scrap the rest" If I lived closer I'd take it off your hands for the scrap value.
I'm working on a '52 chevy sub. for a friend in so. cal. I would post pictures if i could make them smaller....... We've got a date with the painter in April so i'm busting butt to get it ready.. Hey the picture came through.. i'll post more if anybody cares........ Here are some more pictures of the '52 sub. i'm working on. I've loaded up all the pictures i can. The thing had to be power washed out as it was a rat motel for years and the rat crap was 2'' thick in spots. the floors up front had to be replaced along with the cowls on both sides. It did not come with a middle seat so i took a seat out of a early truck cut it down made legs for it and made my own middle seat sorry no pictures of the completed seat.
I like these things. This one has been for sale locally for a little while, looks interesting. http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/1509411237.html
No pics just a memory, owned a 59 GMC Napco 4x4 and a 57 panel. These trucks are tough to find certain parts for and most are seriously rusted. I do know of a Calif. 55 that is complete and solid. Been working on a deal for a few years now, one day he may get a notion to sell! They are cool, I prefer a 5 or 6 Napco.
I traded a 64 ply more door belvedere that ran great for a 57 GMC suburban that didnt run when I was 17. Dad was sooooo thrilled. I havent learned a thing. Half Evil, I'll take the rest. see? I still havent learned.
Ouch. Rolling out of the booth the wrong color and having the bodyshop expect you to live with it.......major motivation killer. Sorry to hear that. The day it happened to me was the day I realized I'm the best painter I know. My work might be peeled and wavy, but at least it's the right color!!
some cool stuff, not to many burbs in the uk i think there s only three 58 chevy burbs and one off those is mine, ill try and get some pics put up
Heres my 2 cents worth. 72 bagged sub daily transportation and 55 1st design panel (also bagged), and 92 sub former railroad truck daily driver.
Reverend Jack, do you realise how heavy that bitch is? It weighs like 500 tons, and with scrap prices right about $200/ton you are lookin at $100,000. Still want it?
Well that is how I've learned about dealing with friends...sometimes it is best not too... When you have a good friend that likes to do things his way, then you should be careful when you tell them what you would like to have done. The body guy, who is now passed on(RIP Vern) was not all to blame, my dad told him he wanted either gold or copper and said "do what you think would look best". So you can easily see how that went. The other thing was it was in the shop for over a year....a lot happened in that time...building the sedan didn't help keeping dads interest up on the 57 so it got parked. I don't really like the dark brown either, but I'm happy as hell that I was able to get it. We used it to tow my race cars when I first got into stock car racing...so it really has some sentimental value to me. In time I hope I can get it straightened up a little and I'm definiatly going to repaint it white and gold or copper, just like it was the first time around and the way it should have been.
Hey Terd, Ifn I were ta take the visor offnit, I'd prolly put'er on my 57 peekup truck!! Seriously tho, are you looking for one of those visors? I have one somewhere from my 55 pickup I had way back when. If you do want/need one I could start trying to find it. I say trying because I'm really not sure where it is. I was still living at home when I took it off my truck...not sure if it is somewhere at my parents place or somewhere around mine!!! I'll look for it just let me know.
Yep, LOVE your Burb Ted. Still going full blown gasser with it this year? Just kidding............. It'll be a cool party wagon!
If I were to ever go back racing I'd look for one of these old gals and upgrade the engine/drivetrain for a tow truck. The older I get the cooler they are. Frank
Sure, yeah, holler at me if you find it. Repops are easy to get hold of, but I like factory stuff waaaaay better. Fit and quality is always way nicer.
Here are my new blue one, a project, and my last one that I had driven the last couple of years. Of course, they aren't G. M. But still "Bourbans" ~Sololobo~
