Anyone have any slick tricks to getting the little flat nut clips off of aluminum trim, without damaging the posts on the trim?? The clips are on two long pieces of bodyside trim. They are on about an 1/8" posts. This is the style clip that I'm dealing with, lots of them.
what i was doing was - using needle nose pliers press down on the two prong bits. Then lift up the edge with a flat head screwdriver. This turns the prongs inside out and you are able to just slide them off
Those style of Clips are a pain.. get a sharp right angle scriber and pull up on the teeth and relieve the springy tension.. these at most are a 2 time use only.. .. if you try to twist off of the emblems , it will mess up the posts , espesially on insignias..
I use a small pair of side cutting pliers. Lift one side then the other. Get new ones to put the trim back on. Once you get them moved up a bit you can cut them. IMHO
i bend the teeth up and slide them off. Then just bend them back in place. Good as new. Some might break due to beimg too rusty but then i guess its time to replace them anyway if their that rusty.
I'm not worried about saving the clips, but the trim is pretty rare. The first few I took off I bent the clips up at both ends to release the teeth. I think I'll try picking up the tabs/teeth. I'm just nervous as hell I'm going to break the trim. It doesn't help that most of the clips are buried in a black go that holds the sound deadener to the inside of the body. I'll keep at it slow and cautious like.
