Thanks again guys, going with a moderately mild 400 SBC and 700R with 3.50 in the rear from Tuff Dawg in Phonenix. Searched on them and couldnt find any negative posts on any message board.

Will dress the 400 with nice triple carb manifold, cal custom rocker covers and some Sellers Equip parts.

Once again thanks, appreciate all the good advice.

I'm having this same debate right now with the rebuild of my A Tudor. How much is enough? I change my mind daily . . .

Good luck with the car, you're gonna like the end result and won't need luck.

FWIW the moderately cammed 400s I've had/have seemed to prefer a 3.7-3.9 gear with overdrive and most 15" tires. Lower gears don't seem to reduce ET much, and higher gears don't seem to find mileage but make them trickier to launch. 3.50s would be good with a shortish 14" tire however.

Thanks Shifty, going to run 16s so might step up to the 3.9's.

My sedan will have a Trick Flow alum. headed 388 (4.060 bore X 3.750 stroke) SBC. with 3X2's. Should easily make in the 500hp. range.

More is always better, you don't have to use it all the time. It fun to have it though.

Consider this. A 300 hp SBC is 4 times the hp Henry put between the fenders. It's more reliable and you can spin the tires all the way to 50 MPH. Does that sound like enough?
