Don't see much about 46-48 Chevy's here...

  1. For sure you need to go with the Gasser look!

My favorite traditional 48 racing coupe. The owner drove it on the streets and raced it.

I'm going to finish up mine this year (2010). It's already mechanically rebuilt, from the frame up. Just need to finsh the bodywork/Kustom work, and interior. Pretty radical, though.

    "Remember George Dorr's '47 Fleetline?"

My buddy's dad owns that car now. Here's a couple pictures of how it looks today.

Nice! With that guy standing next to it you really get a sense of how low the car is (48 inches tall).

I like where you're going with that build. Got any more pics?

  8. I woke up with more answers to my new build on the '42 Coupe! Imagine a group of young highly impressionable gearheads thoughts after watching American Graffitti and having the skills and knoweldge that our heros on the big screen had, still on a budget mind you, but the sheer desire to undertake a project of this magniatude.
Now I am thinking a '47-'54 Chevy PU axle, drilled of course, slicks that just hang out of the opened and radisued fenders, fenderwell headers hanging off the aluniumn heads of the big block, 4 speed and of course, long ladder bars just showing under the silhoutte of the just right rake of the coupe.

Mine sits on a 76 monte chassis. I love the ride, especially going around curves the car never leans over.:) We redid all the bushing etc .with a
http://www.p-s-t.com/ kits for the car. that car rides better than my big Mopar c-bodies.

Really cool thread!! :) Been waiting for one on these bodystyles.

I have a 48 coupe with a 261 blueflame, offenhauser dual carb and fenton headers - runs real good! I might get it chopped this winter/spring, so I am doing a lot of research thesee days as I wants to do it just right.

    My 48:

to be honest with you , I prefer the stock height but I like the chop also....my 48 will stay stock height ....

  14. So are you talking circa 1969 here or 1979?

  15. Come on Martin, you know you were not awake in 69 :D Tim, I like your idea of a straight axle and ladder bars and especially the Big Block  I can't wait to see how your vision turns out.

  16. I remember Aaron's room full of Hot Rod magazines when we were 11 and I was first aware of Hot Rods and I am thinking the influences of the late 60's early 70's magazines and again, circa 1974 after seeing our heros on the big screen of AG. The 454 was a given as I remember Aaron telling me then of the 454 and I honestly had no clue! And the 454 was only 3 years old at that time. I don't remember any mention of front suspension at that time but Harold said blue paint and flames were the talk. It gets kinda crazy as the last few weeks I have poured over gassers all over the web, bought books, researched my magazines for the "correct" tires ( white wall or black) wheels( matching or not, 10 spokes on the front, styles) rollbars, seats, upholstrey styles and colors. I am trying to build a car that was never built, but bits and pieces of I need from the gang to get this on the right track. ???????

this is only my opinion however, i like these cars unchopped. they don't have a real high roof line compared to the body anyway. if you do chop i'd only take an inch or two off. i'd lower it though. :D

Calm down! Your second phrase is alittle demeaning to people here. Now write "I'm sorry and I won't never do it again 1,000 times" hand in by tomorrow...

I don't like the way I&I's window moldings fit on early 30's windows so I used Steele and wasted my money on I&I's.
