Tom and his roadster was also in a movie called Joy Ride to Nowhere. And Tom was in the Junkman movie with his Tub. The last time I got to see him was in 1993 when he come to Ohio with his little bus. He come to a local cruise-In at the Hail & Hearty in Kettering Oh. And also a big car show at Springfield Ohio.I remember one of the guys got real sick after he ate at Hail & Hearty so he had to leave early.
I remember seeing a ad somewhere in a magazine back in the 90's that had a video for sale saying take a ride with Tom McMullen in his roadster. I think Ed Roth had it for sale. I sure wish I could find that video now.Mabey one of Ed's kids know about it.If anyone knows of it please let me know at Dodge34@webtv.net. Thank's a Bunch
Awsome pic's, never get sick of McMullen's Roadster.... Imagine $5,000 for that hot rod years ago in Cali ?
Tom was a US Navy submarine crewmember and used to hang out with the Connecticut Hot Rodders when they docked in Groton.
WOW !!! Nice car !!! I think I see it just a little lol. Something about Black with Flames just looks right you know. Very nice looking car.
I have a Bubble Gum card of it with the roll bar and bike fenders making a run at the WINTERNATIONALS in 65 or 66. I think his then wife Rose was driving it.
I never raced him, but ate supper with him and his wife. They came to a local car show when they were living in Buena Vista , Colorado. After the show we all attended a dinner and awards ceremony. They happened to sit at the table my wife and I were seated at. We had a great conversation. Shortly after they were both killed.
Hard to belive ... Tom told me he had about $2200.00 in that roadster when it was in Popular Hot Rodding in 63-64. Now just look at what it's worth. I still get goose bumps when I see it.I collect anything I can find about it.
Tom said when he first got this car that his mom and dad come to visit him in California from Ohio. He said in the middle of the night his dad heard noise and saw a light in his garage. Tom said by the time he got outside someone had put his tools and other stuff inside it and had pulled it out of his garage. So thanks to his dad we still have the McMullen Roadster.
