Tech tip. Wheel skates on the cheap!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by The Rabid Whippet, Jan 10, 2010.

  1. First off, sorry about the blurry pictures.

OK, I decided to move the hotrod so I can get my Van in and change the water pump. Having no steering posed a bit of a dilemma but sometimes necessity is the mother of invention.
You can pick these moving dollies up at Harbor Frieght Tools for $9.99 a piece plus you can use the 20% discount. Pretty cool huh!!! $32 for the set of 4!!!!
Oh and here are the custom headers I'm building. I will be coating the bend and adding some 2 1/2" turn outs just before they reach the doors. The headers were block hugger headers and I flipped them and will have to shrink the ports a bit as they are huge and made for a 341(?) I will install an 1 1/2" pipe in each one and weld to the flanges.

Hope this idea helps some of you out. They rolled real nice and are rated at 1000lbs a piece.

I paid more than that for four casters to make my own, damn-it:mad: of co**** my truck is probably a tad heavier, so metal frames were a must. I like the artistic touch of adding some foliage to the set, and the fire place tools, great direction:D Like the pipes too....

  3. Yeah, the plant goes with the pictures ! Its part of the Whippet. The Whippet needs a place to Piss I guess. And the fireplace set I dug out while cleaning my shop. I built this set 36 years ago in the 8th grade. First project working with metal.

Just when everyone thought Harbor Freight didn't have any good products. If I hadn't picked up 3 sets of 4 of the wheel dollies for $25 I would be all over a few of those furniture jobs. I got the wheel dollies from a guy that was moving clear across the country and needed to pare down his load. He was asking $10/set and I offered $20 for the whole lot. He said $25 and I reached for my wallet. I figure the weight of all 12 for s**** would just about be worth $25.
They make excellent roll-around carts for engines and transmissions.

We use those to move our snowmobiles around. A hell of a lot cheaper than the dollies designed to move em..
Havn't tried em on a car yet but we've talked about it.
They are a great bargain and work of a lot of moving jobs.
