I use a 50,000 BTU bullet heater, but instead of using kerosene I use deisel fuel from the gas station. It' a hell of alot cheaper than kerosene. I've been using it for years in that heater and have had no problems what so ever. It's about half the price a gallon!!!!

This type of thread is now interesting to me. Having grown up in CA I am not used to having a really cold garage. I used to think that 50 in the garage was way too cold. Well. my heater in my house is broke till wednesday and it is 41 degrees inside. fukin cold. started a fire but still not doin the trick. I like the wodd stove in the garage Idea though.

Torpedo heater. Works great and usually have to turn it off in about 10 minutes because it gets to hot. 1600 sq ft shop insulated.

  10. BTW, this thread is 5 years old.

Check out our sister site www.garagejournal.com for some great ideas, there is an entire sub-forum on heating and cooling.

yeah it,s five years old but it has more resposes recently that it did originally.
thats the beauty of the hamb to me. we can recycle old cars, parts and info.
so what if somebody drags up an old post ever once in a while. if someone finds it interesting, i say run with it. because there isnt much that we can say about what we do that is original to start with.

btw- i heat my shop with wood and used oil.

The best way I have found is to grab an old electric or gas furnace(from a house) from a resaler, hook it up in the shop and make a small duct out of it to get the air moving away from the unit, they are super cheap, easy to hook up, have a thermostat, My dad has one of the older ones (the ones that go in a closet not the attic) and put some casters on it, a 220 plug and mounted the thermostat on the side, and that damn thing is loaned out more than he uses it. Hell if you had time and $$$ you could put a compressor out side and you have A/C also. The one I have now cost me about $45 and keeps a two car garage around 60, of course I am in texas an it really doesn't get that cold here, and not for very long.
