I have been wanting to do this for a long while. I finally got around to working on my own car. Since I got it on the road 5yrs ago I have not been happy with the plate under the car. I found another Hudson bumper with the plate inset in the middle. I also wanted to make it a one-piece and smooth it out. I did not take alot of pictures, but here is what I took. It's off to the chromer tomorrow. Here is a before with the plate under the car Instead of cutting bolts and welding them in, I took some channel and cut it into 1in strips and welded the nuts inside. Then welded them inside the bumper. Here the narrowing has begun. I moved the bumper up and in a little. I also moved the end pieces in to make where they used to overlap the middle a little smoother. After alot of grinding, sanding, more welding, grinding, sanding, more welding...... Here is a little teaser of what is coming next. Since the bumper guards are gone the taillights seem a bit to high. I'm going to lower them a few inches.
Thats funny the bumper for my hudson is at the plater getting stripped right now. Im getting rid of the recess and making one smaller for the plate with a studebaker guard. Looks good! Dave Hitch
Good eye on the taillights, gunna turn out nice for sure. Cringe to say it, but third brake lights with lower taillights are your friend. Seen too many guys get rear ended running lower taillights
I agree. Especially down here in South Florida with all the blue hair drivers. I put an extra bulb socket in, so they are pretty bright. But no third brake light.
Thanks. I dropped it off at the chromers on the way home from work today. He said 4 to 5 weeks. Kinda what I expected, but I have a feeling I won't be able to wait that long.
Looks great Mike. It will be nice for people to get a good look at that plate now. "FKN HDSN" How did that get by? LOL
