Never go online and hire transport companies to haul your new babies!!! Look for guys on the HAMB instead. I found out out the hard way. All they want is that deposit, then they treat you like **** and never get your car. I got treated like **** by 2 guys. They're not even haulers, just brokers who say everything and anything to get that deposit. (DONT GIVE credit card numbers). Lessons learned are those that burn!!! I recommend Jim from Dayton. He's a nice dude and was strate up with me. PLUS.. he's a HAMBer and alliance member! His handle on here is trulyvintage. Heres a link to his business...

Transport companies are horrible. They will p*** your ride from transport to transport and at times you will not know where your car is or when it's arriving. Individuals are usually the best since they get a lot of their business from word of mouth.

Sounds like another case of not enough research...GranTurismo Transport out of Vegas/Florida is one of the most professional I've ever dealt with...doing business w/them has been a downright pleasure and never once have I worried about vehicle being shipped or treatment of customers whose rides sometimes run over $1,000,000 per...I especially appreciate driver Layne Kruger who always dresses clean to deliver and spends about 30 minutes each time, dusting off car and washing windows if needed, not one complaint, just the opposite actually...

Once you see how they treat their own equipment, you'll understand, I've never seen Kruger's truck dirty and it's solid black and chrome, all 90' of it...that's dedication and professionalism...pure and simple...if it really counts, call them, it's worth it...they're Hambers too

Good to see it's getting done. I posted an ad looking for a south bound from Chicago and got zero response as of yet.

Glad Jim was close enough to handle it.

  8. With most transport companies you get what you pay for, meaning the cheap quote is usually **** service. A lot of them are just brokers who give you a quote and then put it out there for the truckers to run from A to terminal at B, B to C, and so on however many legs to get to you. The problem is often by the time it gets to the last leg of the trip, there's not enough money left from the price you were quoted for anyone to want to go out of their way to bring it to you.

If I ever need to transport something I will either do it myself or happily enlist TrulyVintage's services.

Rustynewyorker is correct. You have to realize that the truckers need to make money and they do not work for the transport company. If you expect to get the car delivered you need to pay enough for the trucker to make a profit. They will never pickup cars on which they will lose money at least I wouldn't. I used Magic Carpet and was happy with their service. I did tell them that I would pay a fair price as I didn't want to wait months. So we set the price together. They do not get their deposit until the car is loaded on the transport.
Warning, If you go online to get quotes, expect to get them for months as well as multiple phone calls. Quotes all over the place also.
I also just remembered that there is a website which rates these transport companies. It will probably come up with an internet search.

By the way, For everyone that doesn't realize there are about 5 transporters listed in the Hamb-O'dex that are owner/operators that haul with their own equipment, specialize in old cars and haul 3 or less cars at a time. "Specialized service whether you like it or not." Is how I put it.

Speaking for myself, I pull single cars and haul parts as well (No extra for winch on) It's pretty much a luxury to get a drive on actually, and my business is about 99% HAMB cars and members. I do occasionally post on Fordbarn but only if I'm short timed trying to fill an open slot. Pulling singles does present some issues as far as what I can take on obviously, but I'm here for you and because of you. Simple as that.

Yeah, **** big transport companies. Those guys are nothing but crooks.

CIP, I shipped a motorcycle with Allied in November. The bike left my possesion on perfect condition (as marked on my shipping paperwork), and arrived to the buyer THREE WEEKS LATER with some kind of mark on the freshly painted/striped rear fender, and was marked as being such "when picked up." Luckily, the buyer was a laid back fella, and let it slide.

**** all that noise. I'd gladly support one of the gents on here. I'd rather have a genuine car guy handling my stuff anyways, not Jimmy Joe Jack truck driver.

i have been waiting for over 1 month for someone to pick up my car. seems it is "out of the way" for most drivers. was trying to use a broker out of texas recommended by someone. but he was having a hard time finding one that would pick this one up.

so i called a local transport company that i got from another person. and wala. my car will be here on tuesday. just like that.

his place is dependable auto transport. he has about 19 trucks that travel all around the country picking up cars from dealerships and bringing them back here to the metro detroit area. always seem to find room for one more.
