I'am starting the new year looking for the quickest and fastest coupes, owned by H.A.M.B. members(world wide) from 1913-1948 all mfg.(world wide) the criteria is- streetable coups having license plates, inspection stickers, and insurance. the curb weight-cubic inch-fuel injection system. what is your best e.t. and m.p.h. in the 1/4 mile. for consideration? I will not post what i believe is best overall, because i don't think that's possible. but like you i will have my personal opinion, which i will keep to myself thank you...POP.
Well Pop some may not have inspection stickers if they are running year of make plates like I plan to do. I can think of some fast coupes, but I don't know if they are street driven i.e. tempermental, chicken "worlds fastest vagabond" etc. I guess D.W. is the fastest I can think of ,but he runs yom plates so no inspection stickers, but I'm pretty sure you don't care about that. I think his best was 10.96 in the 1/4
Hi guys, wheres all those coupes?Heres my old coupe that i raced back in 87-88 down here in NZ.It ran a blown 408 bbc and glide, best time 10.3 @ 133 mph and it was street driven daily.
Why does it have to be a coupe? The car that counts is... Yay-Hoo Cup ***le holder. 11.31 @ 121.5mph And that's with a 1200+ mile drive each way to do it. If you can't get your car to the HAMB Drags under it's own power and line up next to Jeff then you don't count.
I hope I don't get my man card yanked, but when I show up at a drag race it will be with a trailer. If I blow something sky high it'll be nice to just sweep up the remains...wench my **** up and go. It will be street driven just not to the strip. (I wonder how long it'll be before I hear,"Here Kitty-Kitty" lol)
My 31 Pontiac has posted a best of 12.10 @ 115.10 but I've resolved some traction issues so I know there's an 11 in there if I don't miss a shift. Longest I've driven to a race would have been the Kontinentals Day of the Drags a few years ago.. some nine and a half hours I think it was. Ran some 12.50's on street tires there. FlamedAbones sedan may not be a coupe but he drives the heck out of her and she runs HARD!!!
Not HAMB friendly, not 1/4 mile, but it was a driver. I never ran it with my good engine in it, but my 34 Binder went 7.25 (1/8th mile) with what was fondly refered to as "The Junk Motor" in it. Larry T
Along with Kerry & Jeff's cars I think we need to include D.W.'s coupe here also. How about it young man?
The big prize is the Yahoo Cup. Without driving it there you can't qualify. It seperates the men from the boys. Oh yeah, he's in there, but will he ever drive it to Joplin again?
I honestly don't know how fast it will go with this engine. I have raced it a long time ago but it's a lot faster now. I'd probably disconnect the trailer before I raced. This car does get driven everywhere. As they say if you see it on a trailer.....
We saw who the "Kitty Kitty" was at the DOTD when it came down to it.Dont worry about people picking at you for trailering a car to the track .I used to hang up on that same thing until i broke my previous Dragcar/Streetcar a few years ago,and was stuck at the track.I learned my lesson the hard way and was man enough to admit my mistake .I wont ever drive a car to the track to race again ,unless its being followed by a truck and trailer.I have drove my old car to the track 280 miles away and ran 13.50's and back home again ,but running on the bottom side of the 11's is another story (likely hood of parts failure just went up alot).Sum think that because a car is trailered to the track that it has to be ,but i know better. My car is proly more streetable than alot of 12 second cars ,but i just choose not to drive it on the street (been there ,done that)...
Come on, leave the trailer on. Kind of like handicap in golf. Would be VERY embarr***ing to lose to a car towing a trailer.
Stude Trucks Yeah would be a kick alright but I might lose. Wouldn't be much fun. It is fun though to p*** some guy in his Beemer at about 85 on the Interstate and see the look on his face.
Jesus christ, the hair on the back of my neck is sticking up and my *** is pucked up tight, that was cool as **** man. Dang
Mine's quick, but its got plenty of room for improvement. That D.W. machine is wicked. My dreams involve a straight shift and blower one day. A man can dream I suppose.
That America, ...is why this country is so great....freedom to go flat out and floored.. Awesome!! Well Done..
Trailer Queen, yeah right, I'd rather have it on my trailer going home instead of on the back of a wrecker, don't give a **** what anyone would say unless they were paying for it, don't worry about that.
Not the fastest, but a contender. 12.5's with street tires, 12.2's with slicks. N/A the only blower on mine is the AC Trailers are for race cars Later,Mark
Thanks for the support Shocker and Grits! It's one thing to break, but to be broke and stranded...no thanks. D.W. vs. Chevy is easily my all time favorite hot rod video. The first thing I did when I joined the HAMB was look D.W. up and tell him what an inspiration he was to me on my own build. There were many times when my car was just kicking the **** out of me and would go watch him banging those gears and I knew I just had to have a ride of my own. Anybody that watches that and doesn't get inspired might as well take a dirt nap.
My 32 3-window,drove to Indy Goodguys two years in a row, runnerup two years in a row in HOTROD 1 shootout, beaten by a trailered race car. 6.5 seconds @ 103 m.p.h. in the eighth mile
Well, I've broken down twice at the track, once an hour from home I broke the rear u-joint that took out the yoke that took out the pinion support... Towed her home at the end of a tow rope. Then I broke the water pump shaft at the HAMB drags, some four hours from home, shoving the fan through the radiator. Bummed a trailer and got her home. Racing and driving on the street, eventually something is going to break. Fact of the matter is she's just to much fun to drive. No way am I ever going to soup her up to the point where I can't drive her but racing is part of it. That's why I'm building the digger. Purpose built to race so I won't be tempted to drive her on the street.
My old coupe isn't the pure traditional car as some - but it was very quick. 502, 435/427 Vette Tri-Power etc.
