In the bench seat vs. bucket seats wars there is an anthem for the bench seat advocates. Stickshifts and Safetybelts (performed by Cake)
wetatt4u, This is an old thread, but if the debate is still up, here's my two cents: Post car, hot rod look, and perfect choice of console and seats. Stick with them.
After listening to that song, Im going to bench. Although the bucket set up you have looks very nice and well matched with the console.
I would think since you are considering selling if I am reading right that I would leave the buckets because they just look right , but you have the bench seat to make the deal happen either way . I for one would be more inclined to buy a really clean mild custom with the parts to put it back stock that one thats just stock or just custom . My 2 cents
I think with the type of car it is, it will be more attractive with the buckets. I think the buckets look great.
I like the buckets, esp. with a small console. And I do not believe that a potential buyer would really be successful knocking the price down over the car not having a bench. Car that nice is going to have more than one potential buyer. So, just for an O/T example of my thinking: I had a Merc coupé that I had accessorised with a period correct AMG wheel. When came time to sell, I parted the two - wheel went for about what I paid, car went for about what I thought it would, AMG wheel, or no AMG wheel. So I figure I came out ahead. And I figure you'd come out ahead if you sold the two separate. Cosmo
I am going with bucket seats in my 54, because my wife will be driving it when we go on longer trips and she is 4' 10" and I'm 6'3". Knees hitting the dash for me, is not comfortable. I like the Bench seat, but want the comfort.
i think the buckets look perfect for the car ( vey nice by the way) but if the bench goes back in the buckets would look perfect in my 55
Buckets are a sign of a 60s hot rod and I love 'em. Bench seats are a sign of a 60s hot rod and I love 'em. Even then kids and young adults did what they liked and liked what they could afford just like now. There is no right answer to this question BUT those factory front bench seats are probably worth a grand and more now, a ragged rusty unupholstered one would bring $500 before it got unloaded at any meet 10 years ago.
Couldn't make up my mind. Kept the bench in the custom 55. Put buckets in the 55 rod. I've gotten equal compliments on both. Keep the buckets for ease right now. Offer the bench with the sale of the car for slightly more. Sell the bench if it doesn't go with the car. Certainly hope you best with your heart and that you continue to enjoy your 55 for a looooooong time.
