Does anyone know the ride height diffrence between the two? I'm startin to build a new frame tommorow and i allready did one with a spring behind but im going spring over this time any help is overly appreciated
Not sure exactly (guessing 2 inches or so), but I have a question; for a 'spring behind' installation, do the shackles attack to the 'bones?
if your using bones then yes but alot of guys use hairpins for this and the brackets have mounting holes
Ya really have to worry about Ackerman...the tie rod. Usually on a spring behind, it's in front of the axle. This makes the steering 'plow'. It is possible to make it work but a spring above is easier to make it all work. Just incorporate a flat crossmember and/or a 'Z'. It'll sit right.
Well first what axle are you using? They sell the tube axles with the brackets already welded to them for a spring behind application. This would lower your ride I would say atleast 3 inches or more doue to the fact that the perch it not going to interfere with the axle. As to when it is mounted to the top of the axle. I had a kit from speedway that was a 4" dropped tube axle and it was the above mounted application and it was not as low as you might think. But I had 16" wires with 6.00x16 on the front. I hope this helps you out
Your ride height is going to be affected by more than where the spring is mounted it will depend on the type of spring you use the tire size and the drop in your axle.
