I think headlight placement can make or break a hot rod. Last night I cut up a stock model A headlight bar saving just the stalks. I tacked them onto my Dodge truck shock mounts that I'm using versus F1 because they're shorter and I like the lights a little bit lower. This is the result, and I'm not sure I like it? Things aren't perfectly straight or tightened down but you get the idea. I will also be adding a bar to connect the two mounts when I'm happy with them. Is there a magic formula for headlight spacing? Anybody know the center to center measurement on a 32? I just tacked the mounts in case I didn't like them so they can be removed and shortened. What do you guys think?
Too far. Split the difference between the tires and grille shell, erring on the side of closer to the shell.
Dude your tires are hitting them! I like them close to the shell, like maybe a couple inches from it.
Here's what you do. Google up some images of Model A rods. Since you know what your frame width is, you can find a picture you like, print it out and scale it acccordingly. Bob
dude, someone chopped off your frame horns!!! i see that its a spring behind but its almost like you cut off your nose to spite your face. looks like a dropped axle would have lowered that thing just as much. but hey, atleast your is on the road. more than i can say for myself. headlights are placed well...
I cut the frame horns off the original frame and kept them, but the frame under the car - I made from scratch using the Model A crossmembers. I agree - I need a drop axle but I'm not on the road yet. I'm still in mockup.
What looks good is pretty subjective. the radiator in my pic is just a temporary unit, final version will lose some height. mine are really low and set wide. just the way I like 'em (ignore the idiot shop boy in pic)
I like the idea of them splitting the grill/tire. The tops of the buckets might look good even with the top of the tires.
Well I made the mounts during some downtime at work last night and didn't have the car to check against. I thought those shock mounts were straight up and down but now that I see them bolted to the ch***is I notice they're canted out a bit which exacerbates the problem. I'll take that into account when I try again. Thanks for the input.
Yes I think they are to far apart. Here is where I have mine. Just remember you are building it for yourself so do what you thinks looks best
I laughed at the Millhouse comment out loud, and thought the same thing as the "does this make my *** look big?" comment. Bring them in
