Want to put some lettering on the old '41 Poncho, but not steady enough to paint them on and besides don't think it would take over the Flatz Blackz. Has anyone used Dry Transfer Lettering? I'm not talking about the address or stencil looking kind, but something in a cool script. If you know of any that will hold up, let me know where I can get it. Thanx.

I don't know about Dry Transfer Lettering, but have you thought of going to a sign shop and having it done in computer cut vinyl, cut to the size you need? If you dont want vinyl you could have them cut a calmask stencil, a low tac vinyl that is used as a stencil that you can hit with a quick coat of spray paint then peal off the masking and have a painted number.
most sign shops have lots of styles to chose from.

  5. I don't think dry transfer lettering will work for you for a couple reasons. The main one is that true dry transfer lettering is on a paper backing that requires positioning it on the surface and rubbing briskly on the other side to effect the transfer. It is then cleared over to protect it.
The rubbing would most certainly abrade the flat paint and clearing over it(even with a flattened clear)would stick out like a sore thumb.
I would pay someone to letter it with paint.

I think the lettering you are talking about is called "Press Type" I haven't bought any in years but it used to be available in the sort of stores that carried drafting and art supplies. It was available in a lot of different fonts. I can't offer any experience of how it works on an outdoor application, it seemed to be some type of vinyl as I recall.
