I have been working like a mad man on my 1923 dry lakes modified model T Ford. The brakes are from a 46 Ford 1/2 ton 122" WB pickup truck. The backing plates are all in solid shape however the tubes for the e-brake are not so good. One is busted off and the other actually has a hole rusted in it. I have my own ideas on how to repair this, but wanted to see how some other Hambers have atacked this same problem. Maybe someone else has a real wizzard of an idea. Thanks! Mike
A pic would help. Anytime that I have an e brake issue I talk to the guys at www.controlcables.com maybe they can help you. Smokey
Sorry, I sort of abandoned the thread a while back. I solved the problem with a litlle bit of gas pipe and some fitings from the hardware store. I got a length of 1/4" pipe threaded on both ends. I screwed a coupler to the end. I drilled half the threads from it on my lathe then bent and cut the pipe to match the origonal piece. Dont forget to debur the inside end of the pipe with a countersink in your drill or a die grinder. I had to heat up the hole in the backing plate and stretch it just a bit to match the water pipe. I made a punch from a piece of the water pipe by tapering it at the grinder. While the plate was cherry red i drove it in after it cooled I inserted my replacement an tacked it in with the mig welder. The repair looks neat. Just watch what brake cables you use some have bigger lugs and springs than others and may not fit. I used ones from a late model Ford Crown Vic. Good Luck! Mike
Probably other stuff would work, but I used an extra flathead dip stick tube. They can be bought from mac's, perfect with a slight bend.
