I'm not trying to start a riff, but it seems like A's are more popular. Is it because A's are more plentiful and less expensive or do they make better hot rods? I really like 32's except for price but there is something about the look of visored coupes! So please, let me know what ya think......

I'd have to go with the cost factor.

Running, driving, restored A coupe: $10,000 tops.

Running, driving restored '32 coupe - $30,000-$75,000 depending on 5 window or 3 window.

    Crappy POS A coupe body - $500-$1500

Crappy POS '32 body shell you'd pass on if it was anything else except maybe a Deusenberg - $2500 and up -

I've seen just a '32 body that needed a complete floor and a couple patch panels sell for more than a Model A you could drive home brings.

    Do the math -

I think you you have made a very costly point Rusynewyorker but there are no comparison between the two. A 32 is the Godfather of Hot Rods to many just ask around.............lol..... but Model A's are just as bad ass when done right. I also agree that something about the visor really gives an A a sweet look especially when they are chopped.

'32 has passed on into Unobtanium territory
    A's are still feasible
    And they are cool.
the new wave of hotrodders are scouring them like a plague of locusts.

Agreed...yes, A's are cheaper and somewhat easier to find......however they will never be as popular as the '32....sooo many glass replicas have and are being produced...right up there with the cobra kits.

  11. That's right there is no comparison between both and yes i have both so i no what i'm talking about.
    A Model A is great, but a '32 is the best !
Great thing here in Europe that a Model A Tudor is probably worth about the same as an English body 32 Tudor.:D

Model A's were available for 4 years. The '32 has been given lot's of boost's in "promotion" from Hollywood. Besides, how many vehicles can you call a deuce? (J/K)

Good question, I have both a 31 model A coupe and a 32 3 window. The money spent on the two is about equal. However, the A is a running titled
vehicle with good glass. the interior is decent with an original type upholstery. The motor has a knock that needs addressing, other than that it could be driven. The deuce is very much a project and no where near a rolling vehicle. As I gather "stuff" for the duece it is amazing the way this thing eats $$$. I found myself trying to explain to a buddy (non motor head) as he eyeballed both, why the 32 was worth more than the A. He
being a man of logic, said my perceptions were flawed to say the least.
    Made me wonder also. MickeyC

I personally like a Model A over the 32. To me the body lines are nicer and the way the side reveal on the cowl tapers down plus the gentle curve of the cowl make the A. I know the doors over lap on the A, but that can be remedied. Just my .02! Let the bashing begin!

I like A's because they represent a different design/manufacturing philosophy. The flat rail tops represent the final flowering of something that was mass-produced but might almost as easily have been hand-made. With the change from the A to the '32, Ford took a fairly big step in the direction of design for mass-production: dependent on expensive tooling and patterns and opaque to the renegade fabricator. Many more such steps have led us to the disposable cellphone-on-wheels crap we have today.

The '32 was perhaps on the knife-edge of that move. The T wasn't quite finished. The A was just right.

I think it's safe to say that most of us can't afford 32's even if you can find one. I like model a's because most of them were built and drivin buy the owner. I've only seen one glass model a in my life.

Still trying to figure out why a glass fake '32 costs more than an all steel real A....

Not much of a rocket scientist is need to compare 4 years of production for the model A with less tan 1 year for the '32 to see the rareity thus cost between the two. The '32 was an instant Icon being the first production v8 (I know about the others, get a life:eek:) and that "oh so sexy" grille shell just pulls you in. But, if sheer numbers make the decision you'll never beat a Model A.
I'm a '32 man but knowing what I know now and were starting over it would be "33/"34's for me.

for those of you who think the duece looks better, would you rather have a glass deuce or a steel A?

I'm more of a kustom car guy, but in my opinion the A can look just as nice and be made just as fast so why spend 2-3 times as much? Unless the specific car has history or is bone stock, the value is not there on the duece. Again, this is imho, but I also understand paying excessive amounts of money for something you truly love (I have), so I'm not judging anyone....:D

I thought I wanted a deuce, and I'd still love to have one, but I am really happy with my '31 and in some ways I like the lines better. The '32 won Hollywoood fame as THE HOT ROD. Problem is, now they are usually way overdone and out of the reach of most of us. Parts are way more expensive than a Model A, repros abound and most of them are now shop built, not home built.

So,and here it starts, MOST '32's built today are Street Rods-built by shops. The vast majority of Model A's being built today are Hot Rods.

As for popular, "Hot Rod Lincoln" is about a Model A hot rod. Little Deuce Coupe is about a '32. Which do you l;ike better? Which is a hotrod song?

I like 32's a bit more than A's, but like 33/34's a ton more than 32's. If all 3 were lined up and I could only take one, it'd be a 34, but I dig them all-sort of like Blonde's, Brunette's, and Red Heads-can't go wrong with any of them!
Supply and demand is a factor, but on the supply side, IIRC, Henry minted about 5 Million Model A's.

I love 'em all but to be honest I think it's hard to beat a '28-'29 Roadster on '32 rails with a '32 grille the '32 Roadster is just too boxy in the back for me. For coupes I think the '33 - '34 3 windows are hands down the best looking coupe made. Besides production numbers I think a lot of it is just trying to keep up with the Jones' The Deuce is the car to have if that's what's important to you.

Remember the deuce 3 window body and frame that brought 47500.00 in Nebraska a few months ago? Model A's will always be popular because of availability and cost. That said, if I was going to do a complete build from scratch using new parts I would always go with the 32 roadster over an A because while the cost to get started is about 5/6K higher. Everything else, chassis, drivetrain, paint, interior is about the same and the end product will usually be worth more than the difference to build.

Big toss-up for me. I like 'em equally. I have a '29 A Sedan thats in a million little pieces, but I wouldn't trade it for a '32. My wife bought it for me for my 40th birthday!

I prefer the A because of the visor, it makes a chopped coupe look more sinister than any car without one.

I don't know about "more popular", but Model
A's are certainly a lot more common and cheaper
simply because Ford built a whole lot more of
them! Personally, I'd be happy with either one!
    Hell, in a pinch, I'd even "settle" for a '34!!! :D :D :D

It's availability and initial cost that puts so many Model A's out there as rods. Model A's have always been plentiful running or not and there are still a lot of unrestored ones putting around on a regular basis where you almost never see a 32 running around stock and or unrestored or unmodified.

As someone else said a running Model A with an older restoration will go for less than a clapped out Deuce of any body style. I'd love to have a 32 tudor but will go with an A tudor simply because of price and availability and the fact that I can find the A body fairly easy while the 32 body is made out of unobtainium as someone else mentioned.
