Here is the deal. I am looking for the right size tires for my coupe. The first pic is what mine lookedl ike before the front end swap and the second is what I want it to look like. I have a mustang II front end in it now and need to know what size tires some of you are running to get that big and little look. I currently have 235/75-15 on the back and 205/75-15 on the front. I was thinking about 195/60-15 or even a 185/60-15. I dont want to go too small and was hoping to get some pics and input from fellow hanbers and thier FAT FENDERED CARS THANK YOU
IMHO you would be very disappointed with 185 or 195 60 series tires....they will look very small on the Ford. I had a '47 until recently and used 205/70-15 on the front and they were as small as I could imagine looking decent in proportion to the size of the car/fender. They don't call these 'fat fender' for nothing. Tire Rack, the on-line tire company, has a great website that is chock full of info and data. Takes a bit to learn to negotiate it, but it is very useful for this kind of thing. First decision to make is ride height you are after with the springs you have settled on. That will suggest the tire diameter you'll need to achieve that. If the frame is to be at, say, 6" off the ground, where will the center of the spindle need to be? That is the radius, or half the diameter if you will, of the tire you need to consider. Bear in mind the bottom half is 'squished' a bit in the loaded position. Apply the same priciples to the rear axle. Tire Rack data provides tire diameter by specific tire (not all sizes measure the same a**** brands) the rim size suitable for it, the tread face width, section width, how many revs per mile.........it's teriffic. the 205/75-15's I have on it make them look so big. I have 2 inch dropped spindles with the mustang front end too. I guess I should put the front fenders back on it and see how it looks like now that the front end is down a little bit. Chris, how did you get yours so low. I love the way that sits thanks
here a pic of my dads old car, i know billet wheels. but the fronts are 205-50-15 and the rears are 255-50-16.
My '46 Coupe has 235/75R15 on back and 215/75R15 on front with 15"x7" wheels. I haven't measured the wheel offset yet. I am about to install MII front and rear parallel leaf suspensions and will change from the stock 5x5 1/2" bolt pattern to the later 5x4 1/2", so will need to change wheels (but not style) and probably tires also. I haven/t yet selected the brand of MII suspension so don't have a definite frame height. But would like to get no more than about 1" lower than presently as we live in the country and our drive is not paved.
