I am considering buying for my next project. Its rust free except for windshield frame. I am also curious as to what others would think I should pay for this.
Well, if that grille is stainless and it looks like it is, and IF it also fits pickups the truck should be worth $1K. It could be a 41-early 47 vehicle. Only way to be sure is get the engine number from it and see, IF the engine is the original one.
The grill is stainless. It was previously painted and has a few little problem areas as you can see from the close up. The truck itself (cab and clip) is the same as a pick-up. The original engine is in it, so I will check that out. Thanks
That looks like a big truck and you will probably find the fender cutout radius is larger for the bigger tires used on big trucks. I am not sure if the fenders and grille are wider too? The cab is definitely the same as 1/2 ton pickup.
Those "problems" are no big deal, fix and polish rather than fix and have replated at today's astronomical prices. The big truck fenders are NOT the same as pickups in those years. I know that earlier Chevy trucks have bigger grilles than pickups.
You got a pic of the firewall and/or rear window? Either one can be a YOM clue. Also the running lights on top of the headlights...are the 2-piece or one (not including lens, of course)?
I have been superimposing the pics of the yellow one over known half ton pickups and the proportions seem the same. Of course measuring would be needed. Also the number of vertical grill pieces is the same. I can not be sure about the wheel opening, but Ive attached a pic. I do appreciate your guys' help
The headlight housing is 2 piece, with the turn signal runner attached to the main housing with 2 screws. This is the best firewall pic I have.
Fenders are definitely "big truck" and wouuld be way out of proportion on a half-ton. Grill is almost definitely the same on little and big. The running lights seem to be one piece. That leads me to believe it's a late-46 or early-47 model. All 45 and early-46 trucks had painted grilles and hood-side trim due to the war consuming all the chrome.
Yup, firewall is post-war as well, or at least late-41. 39-to early-41 did not have the "X" pattern on the firewall.
The last check (without running the frame/VIN #, of course) is...does the rear window have any screws around it from the inside? If not, definitely post-war!
OK, here it is from the Chevrolet Parts Book, 29-54, March 54 edition. 41-early 47 Pickup, 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton front fenders are the same, 1-ton-up trucks are different. 41-early 47 Pickup, 1/2 and 3/4 ton grilles and 1-ton-up trucks are the same.
Great, thank you. So...fenders are different, grill is the same. Side note, the gvw painted on the side states 16000
It is '54 thru '58, ***uming the valve cover is the original to the engine........'59 thru '62 had the breather cap midway, not near the front.
