After we dropped the fornt end of the Stephie Joe's Falcon we needed some shorter shocks for it. I priced some drop shocks and got sticker shocks intstead so I made my own. Heres how, and the only thing you'll need is 1/2nf jam nuts. Ace has them in the specailty drawers, they are 1/4" thick, you'll need 2. I explain in a minute.. You'll need to measure the compressed hieght of the upper bushing, (distance between bump and the last thread.) this ones 1 3/8". Grind the nub off, leave as much of the step as you can. Then tap the shaft 1/2nf. You'll need threads cut 1 5/8" down the shaft, this is the compressed hieght and the thickness of the jam nut. Now finish the 3/8nc threads down to the step in the shaft, Cut 1 3/8" off the top of the shaft, run the jam nut down the shaft till it bottoms out, drill one of the washers to 1/2 and install it and the bushing. The bushing will be a bit tighter but some spit and a cuss word or 2 it will slide onto the 1/2" shaft. the step in the shaft now becomes the stop for the upper washer so everything works as stock. Took 10 minutes per shock. Ready to install!
thanks for the tip; nice addition for tech week. can't see it not working for any application where travel has been changed, not just Falcons!
Great tip, I am getting ready to lower the fairlane, and when I cut off 1 coil in the front I will use this tip to make the front end ride smooth as ****a!
One of those things that make ya smack yrself in the head and scream "Why didn't I think of that?". Nice.
