Yeah, if you go Hemi, I would probably advise against running the TH350. TH400 would be a better choice if you're going GM. I would again advise a 727 anyway though. Adaptation would be similar in either case.

Can't speek for Nailheads on any avenue. Nailheads are neat in their own way, but I know pretty much nothing about them. I'm just biased towards Hemis in general, but still think it would look pretty sick in a 33 Plym.

Neither. I'd go for an Olds Rocket.

FWIW it's not gonna cost anymore to get a 331-354 up and running than that nailhead, you're gonna make more power, it's easy to get parts since it shares so many parts w. 318-360, they're so efficient they can get over 20 mpg, and you're gonna always get heat for not putting a mopar in a mopar. you'll have no problem fitting that hemi in the 33. Run an adaptor to any mopar trans you can get, cut down any 65-75 mopar driveshaft and bolt it to an 8 3/4 out of a 66-67 b-body ply/dodge (which fit nice). Great h***le free tough powertrain...done. Frt susp. is the area you got some head scratchin to figure out on these cars.

Well, I 'spose the Hemi would look ok......:D...but not sure why you would put a gm trans in the middle of a Mopar drive drain. Like Scooter says, use a 727 or 518.

If you are still looking for ideas or want something a bit different, use the Spitfire heads.

    Whats the car telling you?

Both are cool in my book....

Then again this coming from the guy that doesnt have a machinist within 200 miles that is competent enough to work on either....

Keep it mopar!! Hemi and a reverse manual valve body 727 would be killer!

Well looks like most people feel Hemi is the way to go! Will the big block 727 Trans bolt up to the Hemi 354/392 or do all the 727 (big block/small block) ones need the adaptor?
I know the 331 and the 354 blocks are the same size, and the 392 is an inch taller. Is the 392 block also wider than the 354s?
I'm going to the swap meet this week end just wanted to know what to look for?
Thank to everyone the expressed interest in my dilemma?

What should a good 354 sale for. Also found a 392 he's asking $2000.00 for it?

  17. Especially if you have a line on a Hemi, I would go with that:D
Had a 354 back in the mid '60's. Terrific torque engine; had it in a '54. Lots of good parts available, check out Scooters hemi-tech and the Hotheads website.
My dad had a '55 Century with the "big" nailhead and the old 354 could stomp him everytime. Made for some interesting family dynamics:eek:
    Luck!

Although B&M made an adapter for the big-block 727 they are hard to find and usually imcomplete or have a damaged flexplate.
The smallblock 727-518 is the way to go, and yes, they require an adapter for the block as well as the crank.

By virtue of the 5/8" taller deck (at an angle) the 392 is about 1" wider, overall, than a 354.

Send a PM if you need adapter info.

Wilcap has the adapters for the 331, 354, and 392 to 727-518 arrangement.

Nailhead? Sounds like something you hammer with a hemi. Why use a footnote in automotive history when you can use the greatest engine to ever come out of Detriot and that replaced an inferior engine?

Well I haven't had time to contact the guy on the Hemi yet!:(

I know he has a few 331/354s and 396s! I think i will go with the 354! I really don't know what he wants as far as price yet! i figured it should go for $500.00 to $1000.00? Is that what going rate is?

I been looking at getting the 727 trans also, look at the size of the 518 and i think the longer and bigger shift wont fit with out modifying my X member! (don't really want to change it!

I also been thinking of going to a 700R4 (i know its a GM) but its a descent trans with OD that I think will fit. Or I can gear the 727 ant it should work fine also!

How 'bout a Plymouth in a Plymouth? ... and keep it "traditional" with a (57-66) Plymouth Poly A series 318 ... lots of cool accessories:

.. and stroker kits are available for them.

Putting an early (331, 354, or 392) Chrysler HEMI in anything other than a Chrysler-bodied car is a stupid idea! :D

Hemi....I wish I would have waited to get a hemi for my 34 but I had a 350 available so in it went. I regret it. My advice...put a Hemi in it!
