Folks Of Interest Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by studearch, Jan 14, 2010.

  1. I heard a piece last night on NPR that Jan Gabriel died at age 69. He was the Chicagoland DJ that started the racetrack announcement genre "Sunday! Sunday!Sunday!" for U.S. 30 Dragstrip and other local tracks. Of course the announcement was copied nationwide, usually followed by "Nitro-burning Funny Cars, Dragsters, Jet Cars, etc." Anyone got any stories about this unknown American innovator? There will be a service for him - of course on - Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! Our thoughts are with his family. R.I.P.

Sad to hear about his passing..I can still hear his voice on the radio. One more piece of history gone.

I just picked that news up today. Listening to his iconic message on WLS AM is one of my most vivid memories of the 70's.

that is sad to hear, I grew up watching him on "Battle of the Monster Trucks"

I also had chance to talk to him about 5 years ago, I wrote him an estimate to fix the bumper on his corvette and we talked for quite a while.

    RIP
