36 3 window vs 36 cabriolet car value???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lkydevil310, Jan 16, 2010.

  1. I found two cars that are up for sale ones a chopped 36 3 window with all the body work done has a nine inch rear end but stock front suspension he wanted to keep it traditional nice car just needs to be finished and i then found a 36 ford cabriolet chopped window with the convertable top framing to go with it suspension work has been done with a mustang II and nine in rear end same as the 3 window needs to be finished. my question is what holds it value the 3 window or the cabriolet or its just a preference?? thats something i couldn't understand ive seen what both cars go for when there up for sale just wanted to get some opinions??? thanks

Sounds like you're buying a car to finish and flip? If that's the case, open cars have always been desireable, but a nicely hammered 3/w will draw serious demand too.
If you're buying to keep, get whatever your heart desires and don't sweat potential value.

Anything which the top goes down on, the price goes up.... Antiques, hot rods, it doesn't matter...

Back about 15 years ago, when I was looking for a car to build, I ran across a guy that had a 40 Ford Coupe and a 36 Ford Cabriolet. He wanted $1500 for the 40 coupe, $5000 for the 36 cabriolet. That may give you some idea on value.

Buy them both, flip the cabriolet and keep the coupe, it's the hot rod, especially if its chopped.

Tough choice ! I prefer the road trips in the coupe and just having fun in the roadster :)

I love the open top cars but like someone up top said, for traveling there is a lot to be said for a car with a hard top. I have a 40 vert and love it but it sure is noisy on the highway.

  16. Coupe's worth an arm and a leg, cabriolet an arm, a leg, your left nut and your first-born child. Figure accordingly.

    Is the Cabriolet a 3 p***enger or a 5 p***enger Club Cabriolet?

This is surely a toss-up based on what you like. No point in buying a car that isn't your first choice just because it's the "more valuable" one, you won't like it any better, will you?

If old cars were really a money deal then most of us would already be priced out of the hobby.

Personally I'd go for the 3Window,I just think they look better. Great point about the Club Cabriolet.

I gotta agree, it all depends on what you like if it's going to be a keeper. I would have to go for the 3 window over the Cabriolet no matter the value just because a 36 3 window is way up on my want list and I never cared for the looks of the Cabriolet myself, don't like the fixed w/s frame. A choice between a 3 window or a roadster would be the tough choice for me.

GET BOTH! Use the cabriolet to get the girls and the 3 window to get rid of them.

The 36 is just about the only car where the coupe would be close to the cabriolet in value, not the same, but close. For beauty, I go with the 3 window.

my pops traded a steel 41 willys for a roadster after he looked for over a year for a cabrolet (the other one's a 3 window). he still threatens to sell the rdstr for the cabrolet. I grew up in 35's but given the option I'd stick with the drop top.

  30. Not even a choice for me.
The 3 window wins hands down..
