What do you do with an Anglia??

  1. I've got a chance to pick up an Anglia (48-50) the question is what do I do with it? I've searched and looked at lots of pix. If I build it I want to drive it, so I'm not sold on extremely narrowed rear axles and wide tires.
I like the look of some 60's gasser styles but I also like the look of the more modern lowered look. I'm stuck on what style???
I'm putting this out to is what you guys think, I'm open for ideas on how to build this Anglia.
    Thanks WD40

Break the chain and don't do a gasser. Just kidding.:D In all honesty, I don't think I've ever seen one that wasn't a gasser. So, maybe you SHOULD make a hot rod out of it. Dare to be different and all that crap.

You could do the gasser style, without going the huge tire route, especially on the street. Some tires like 235 by 75 by 15's would look plenty big enough, gives lot's of traction, and let you keep a fair width for the rearend and suspension. Especially with a mild smallblock and keeping it light. I perfer a fun car that you have to drive on the streets, even if you smoke the tires while going sideways...:D

I've always thought it would be fun to do up an Anglia or Thames pickup or panel with a hotted up 4 banger, T5, setup, a basic fun good handling small car.

Salt racer style very low chopped fendered, grille raked back, HOT 4 POT MOTOR, 5 SPEEDER, similar to the VW apple green car built by Al Stevens (if I remember correctly) here in the UK some time during the 80's , It was featured at the time in the UK mags and was a personal favourite of mine, I can't find any pics of the car but other UK based HAMBers may remember it. It was so different at the time but had the LOOK. Cheers

I wouldnt gasser it. Id pro-tour it with big brakes and tires. Even pro street would be better than gasser although they are alot alike.

Hey I think a moderately narrowed 9" something you could run some 235-70-15's under the wells and a straight front axle. lowered in the rear and about up an inch in the front just so your chrome straight axle could be seen. cut the rear fenders up so more of the tire would show and allot on the front so your headers would show behind the front tires.

  18. put a hot 4 banger or V-6 in it. 5spd Keep it low so it'll handle good. Semi pro touring with a retro wrapper.
I've never driven one but the guys I've talked to that do say they can be a handful set up like a gasser.

    d'oh Jessie!

I really dig that fenderless, throw a straight axle under it too, kinda like a full bodied t-bucket at that size.
Gassers are cool but everone does that....

So with that said, if you like it and its a deal you can afford buy it and do whatever the hell you want with it!
