My '29 Model A had juice brakes put on back in the early 60s. The car was parked and sat from 1968 till now. I pulled the front backing plates and removed the wheel cylinder to find them both frozen. They freed up with my press and using a block of wood as a plunger. They look rebuildable. However, I noticed that one of the piston 'slugs' is cracked and one of the 2 'ears' that hold the edge of the shoe is broken off. The shoe won't fit I can get rebuild kits with new internals for this lockheed wheel cylinder but is a replacement piston (the larger of the 2 bores) available or do I have to buy a complete wheel cylinder? And it appears that the earlier 39- lockheed cylinders are no longer available and i'll have to buy BOTH of the later year (larger bore) wheel cylinders. much more expensive The original wheel cylinders look like they can be honed and rebuilt so I am hoping to be able to rebuild instead of replace the wheel cylinders. Are the alum wheel cylinder pistons available by themselves?
just buy new ones..you may think they are rebuildable but if they were rusted i bet they have pits in the bores. Mac's has new USA made ones for $40 each, O'Reilly has offshore ones for $18.95
So I take it by the indirect responses that the answer to the question is NO, the pistons aren't available, I'll have to buy new.
The Wagner Part Number for the 1" Front Wheeel Cyl Piston is FC 6986, for the 1 3/8" piston, FC 10237 and the 1 1/4" piston, FC 7144. Good luck trying to find these. HemiDeuce.
