How do you take off 46-48 Ford sedan running boards off? There are 5/16 bolts that run thru it but the bolt keeps spinning. I dont see where you can put a wrench or a socket from the top.

You will have to drill out or grind the bolt heads off. The nuts are 'caged' in the rocker panel, there is no access to them. Been there!

Once you get them off, you may have to replace the rockers. If you do, weld in a support between the doors to prevent the door openings from closing up when you cut the old ones out. The person I bought my 46 coupe from didn't do this and the opening was 1/4 inch too narrow. Had to cut the rockers and widen the opening.

On the bright side, there are some nice repro rocker boxes for these. The ones on our sedan were pretty much missing when we got it.

I second oldspert on the warning to brace the body if you're replacing the rockers.

Im parting this car out so there is no coming back. It is up on my trailer because i dont have a lift. So I can get to the other side of the bolt thru the inner rocker?

To the best of my memory. I'd suggest torching/cutting the bolts off before trying to grab the plate nut type part on the inside of the rocker.

I second this suggestion, especially if the car is being parted out. Accessing the bolts through the inner rocker is near impossible.

Time to get out the blue tipped wrench!
