TECH: What to do with OEM SBC center bolt valve covers

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 4t64rd, Jan 16, 2010.

  1. Everybody has at least one, of not a set of those OEM Small Block Chevy valve covers laying around.

  2. Get your chopsaw out and remove the ugly parts of the valve covers, making sure to catch the ribs where they are full size one either side of the bolts hole flat areas. The lip around the edge can come off after you weld the remaining parts together.

  3. The parts that you weld back together and use your grinder to make relatively smooth. It helps to weld it together from the inside.

Once it's close, put a coat a filler on it and paint it black, use it to cover for modern bits under the hood, like relays, and ugly connectors. as a cover for a storage box, or as the battery box cover if your car is simple enough to be able to use a MC battery. Get enough of them strung together, you could make a cool console.

What's nice is that the covers are symmetrical from side to side so both ends are the same and they are flat. This one is going for another project, but the next one I get is going in my trunk to cover the fuel pump relay.

    Great idea!

All I could think of was adding concrete, some rope, & yellow paint to make wheel chocks out of 'em...
