3window, no contest. Here's a scenario, and for the record you brought up value so...

Let's say you got a nice finished 3W all traditional, excellent chop, great stance, great 'at***ude' that like said above just wreaks a *** appeal that only a 3W can. Now comes along a Cabriolet with a chopped W/S and a top that may or may not take some effort to raise or lower so most likely never gets lowered. And when it does, where is it? Piled up on the back. I like many others would be drawn to the 3W for it's clean ***y lines unbroken by fabric boots or top mat'l. Hands down the bst looking car. Also consider we're talking modded cars not resto stuff. If it's resto, well we don't need to go there, plus the cab you mention has already been chopped, W/S and top frame, how well was it done? In fact a 3W needs to be done well too, actually more than well done, perfect, otherwise they look afflicted.

As a rod I'd think the 3W brings more $$$$ and more interest all day, any day. Stock? Do we gotta? Nahhh...

I would think the open car would be worth more money in the marketplace. I have a chopped 36 Cabriolet and love it. But that being said, my dream car is a chopped 36 3-window or a chopped 32 3-window. There is not a better looking car out there than a 36 3-window with a chopped top done right. A guy needs to own an open car and a closed car to have all of his bases covered!

I have a little different take on it, I have a very nice solid original 3/W body that I would trade up or down for a roadster or the rite Cabriolet. The '36 Ford 3/W looks great stock, customized, semi custom, taildragger, chopped, unchopped, etc. Lots of opptions. With me the Roadster or the Cabriolet HAS TO BE CHOPPED to get my attention and like the coupe it has to be done rite. To me the Roadster or the Cabriolet looks best, nastyest, sneekyest, ***iest, with the top "up" and would only be put down a few times each summer. I am finding that the Cabriolet guys want 5k-8k more for their cars over my coupe in about the same condition. The guys with the roadsters want another 10k-20k more. There's not many stock originals left of either. For me it's the gr*** is always greener, I would hate to trade the 3/W and regret it later but when I see a roadster or Cabriolet sittin rite, chopped rite I take notice. If I had a Cabriolet I would still be looking for a Roadster. For some the 3/W is at the top of their list, for me it's the roadster which doesn't have anything to do with your dilemma but I can't see a mistake made with whichever one you chose.

Grab whichever one is worth more. When it comes time to sell it, you'll be glad you did.

    :) :D

I agree ( and I do have both  ) but if you can only have one ... GO with the cabriolet. You can go with the TOP down ... or the canvas up :p

Sorry, I stand by my statement. If I saw your car parked along the road or driving by I'd think "street rod". Maybe I should state my definition of a "hard core hot rod". An american automobile built with performance as it's primary goal, Handling, acceleration, top speed no compromises. In my world it has to have 3 pedals, 400+ c.I, 4,5spd manual trans, multiple carburation, header exhaust, solid lifter cam, 4.11 (or higher) rear gear, and weight the absolute minimum without sacrificing safety.
I just can't wrap my mind around a purple, chrome wheel, convertible as being very intimidating and in my world a hot rod has got to project at least a hint of danger. Your milage may (and obviously does) vary. Before you go and get your nose all out of joint I think you've got a cool car..................just not a "hard core hot rod"

This chopped Cabriolet was sitting next to my 3/W when I went to pick it up, I didn't have a choice but if I did it would have not been the 3/W I am afraid...............

Worst idea in this thread. Not only would you ruin a 3-window, you'd have a *******ized "coupester" that's worth even less (and likely look like sh!t).

    Back to the topic...
Both are very desirable, sounds like the 3 window may be more in line with a trad build, but having an open car is a blast. I tend to see more $$ for open cars, but both would be bad***.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask, or check out the Fat Ford group here, there are a ton of guys that know 36's real well, esp 36 3window and Django.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I really prefer the coupes. If you are buying to keep. Get the one you want. If its to sell get the cabriolet.

When i was a kid 50yrs ago my brother had a 36 5 window. I would set in it and tell my self someday when i get older i would buy myself one and 32yrs ago i seen an ad in the paper for a 36 coupe for sale. I went to look at it and it was a 3w the first one i ever had ever seen its was the prettiest hunk of junk I'd ever seen, bought it and I'm on my second one today. You can't go wrong with a 3w coupe.
