    Alan is the MAN

  3. George's Rolling Bones built 34 is a true traditional hot rod.

Alan Johnson is a master craftsman. I can see the elegance in his milled from billet split bones. But to me, they have no soul.

I got that issue and it is a beautiful car. If he was to give it to me, I'd have to sell it. The fear of driving it and getting hit would take the fun out of having it.

Now you're starting to sound like KIRK! No car is too nice to drive. Stone chips and road rash can always be fixed. Cars are meant to be driven no matter how nice they are.;)

Congrats to Alan for the coverage. Well deserved bud.

    I don't have it yet.

Is it Alan's personal 32 hiboy roadster?

I got to talk to him about it at shades, nice.

That's funny since the first trip that car took was from New York to Utah and right out onto the salt at Bonneville.

Amazing car in every aspect and well deserving of the cover.

I believe this refers to the Johnson car, not the Rolling Bones car.

It is a black 32 roadster but, he did build it .

I loved it in bare steel but if I had to paint it , I would have painted it black also.

    It's his personal car.

    He built it.

Lots of unique details, and a flatty.

    I dig.

A multi-millionaire driving a $250,000 car is different from me. He could afford to fix it or even have someone detail it for him. Which he probably does. That's a toy to him. To me it would be a treasure. I don't want a treasure. To high maintenance.

That is what I meant. I didn't mean the car wasn't road worthy. It is, I read the article on it. In my world, it doesn't fit. In fact, it damn near borders on impractical.

If I had that car, I'd move to where it was practical.

I took the Johnson car out west and was there when they took the pictures that are in Street Rodder. That is one nice roadster and the craftmanship is first class. He built it and drives it and it is the perfect example for his shop. Good enough to win the Stroker McGurk award at Pleasanton and I agree with Stroker.

Poteet is a collector of fine craftsmen who build nice cars.

I would say that he is a patron of the arts and a fine supporter of the artists.

It takes a special guy to often hand projects off to relatively unknown at times shops and turn them loose to build the cars he has built. His support has put several of these shops on the map.

I'd have to agree with Denise as I usually end up doing anyhow. Both of these cars were built to be driven and are driven. The coupe may be a bit less practical to drive in some situations but a guy would have a ball driving it cross country or just down the road to the afternoon rod trot. The roadster is a beauty but like all cars out of that shop it is built to be driven and will get driven.
As far as "too valuable to drive" I've got friends with 15K tied up in their hot rods who are afraid to drive them on a regular basis because they are "too valuable" on the other hand I have a friend with a 250K exotic car who put snow tires on it so he could drive it when there is snow on the ground. One won't open the garage door if he sees a cloud in the sky while the other has a ball every time he gets behind the wheel and often posts photos of his car in less then desirable places to have an exotic car.

I've got photos of the little green Mopar hardtop that Poteet had in the late 90's sitting in the big middle of a row of cars at Plesanton in 1998 with people walking on all sides of it and a gal with a stroller way too close to it but no special parking, no ropes and no one standing guard to keep the peasants away. Just a cool car sitting in a row with other cool cars with people getting a close hand look at it.

I love both cars. I'd drive the wee wee out of them. After 20 yrs. Of road chips, and some faded paint, i'll love them more.

I have been in love with the Poteet car since I first saw it in bare metal.
