The car that started it all for me. 1950 Business Coupe...

My Dad got it before I was born, all orginal. Swapped in a SBC & transmission from a Nova, then a Nova subframe and rearend when he realized it didn't stop or turn to well.

This is the way I remember it, when he sold it. I was about 13. I will always want this car back.

  5. I love the lines of this car and was thinking of chopping my fleetline...then I realized that with the 6" channel, the rear frame rails would be coming out of trunk lid.

    Oh well...

    Cool thread!

Nobody loves the '50 Chevies more than me. Especially the Fleetlines.

Here's a photo of my first car. Bought it in '65 when I got out of the Army. Paid $100 to the original owner. Not a hint of rust - nor a dent. Tossed the visor and skirts (probably wouldn't do that today - LOL), put in a black naugahyde interior ($150, including full headliner and mats), had it nicely painted for $59.95.

Motor was the stock 235 with and Edmonds twin-carb manifold ($20 at a swap meet). Hurst-shifted standard 3-speed. Rebuilt the motor (babbit bearings) and it would do an honest 100 mph (if you had a while to spend getting there - LOL).

I wish I could say the other two photos are what the car looks like now, but its not the same one (sold mine in '68 for $350, and I still tear up when I think about it). This maroon beauty was for sale at the '05 HAMB drags and just made me crazy jealous. Still had a 235, and VERY nice in every other way. I think it went for somewhere around $12K.

I've wanted another one for years, but all I see for sale is overpriced rustbuckets. What a fool I was to let it go.

My first project car...49 Pontiac StreamLiner. Got it a month ago. I'm already getting a vision for how I want it to look. Pictures forthcoming.

  25. I still have this buried under a mound of **** in the garage. It runs, but the 235 has a cracked block, so I'm going to put the 350/700R4 out of an '89 Suburban in it - I drove the Sub 40,000 miles, I know the motor combo is good. In fact it should be more than enough motor for this little car. I also have a '75 Camaro 3.41 rear and it has '54 Chevy front brakes on it already. Inside is '64 Pontiac buckets and a '63 Riviera console and eventually it will get the column from the same, I have a dash to swap out too.

It's never going to be a show car, but I figure I can make something fun out of it.

Would help if the damned attachment would upload -

  27. My '52 (with '51 grill) business coupe on a 4,000 mile round trip to Los Angeles in about 1980. The last of several paint jobs in the 12 years I had it - 1964 Ford black cherry (extra black and extra metalic). Gawd I loved that car!

And.... My current ride. A rust-free 3 owner '51 fleetline deluxe. 350/350, '68 Camaro rear, lowering blocks, sand bags and cut coils! :D

  28. Have a 49 Deluxe coupe in hybernation, plans call for g***er stance, role model is Gregg's cl*** reunion car. I've had thoughts of selling it, someone talk me into following through! These cars are too cool with all the curves in the right places.:D Munsters chop is a work of art.:cool:A+
