Well, it's a done deal. I'm the proud new owner of a 52 Deluxe. Got all the shit (literally) junk, and dead things out of it this week, and got in back on 4 good, OK better than flat, tires. Can't wait to get her home and tear it apart! Did some more research and found that the car was not painted by Starbird, but he was consulted on some things, and it was in a starbird show back in its heyday. Trying to find some vintage pic's since this was my wifes Aunt's car, she might have some.
I grew up in the 50's and 60's, when these cars were a dime a dozen; '40 Fords were fairly commonplace; and most of us did not appreciate the potential of these old Chevys. I'm glad to see that rodders are finally "proud" to own one. Wish I kept mine.
Loooks like a good find.Just picked mine up last december.Great winter project. What are the plans for it?
Whats up HAMB'ers, Well we got her home today, and everything went pretty smooth. Got some more pics here. Already removed the interior, windshield, and some chrome. Powerwashed it inside and out. I'm gonna need some serious help with parts real soon, possibly a whole front clip grille and all. This one is probably fixable, but the hood is pretty rough and the grille/hoodllatch and all are gone. Also all this original stuff (tourque tube, 3spd, 6 banger which is froze-up) will be for sale. Sunflower swap meet coming in Feb to wichita, can't wait to go dig through some crap and find some stuff for this car. So far the plan is to go with a small block chevy auto trans (I know, I suck) keep the orig frame with suspension updates, oh, and yes my bro donated a set of air bags to the project. Everyone should have a brother like that! stay tuned for more updates.
i have a 50 parts coupe the hood latch should be the same and i have tons of other misc parts for your chev.. those little chevies are fun cars!!
Anybody know how to get a title for this car in Kansas? The vin plate on the inside of the door jamb is missing also.
Did that possumummy re-animate after the water soaked in to its crusty skin? It may have just been playing dead...possums do that ya know. He was all nice and cozy under that seat. I still think you should cast his head and make a shift knob or hood ornament!
Here's a few more shots of Derwood's new project. As a pinstriper, I had to take these pics. Anyone out there in HAMB land remember this car?
Been working on it all day, got all the glass out, most the chrome off, all the interior out. Still shoveling out mud and shit, nasty sumbitch. Want to have this thing ready to strip ASAP so we can see exactly what we're dealing with. So far even with all the dirt, it's still pretty solid. Good solid metal around the windshield and back glass, bottom of doors are saveable, even the rear quarters aren't as bad as my 64 Olds was. Needs some floor work and rockers fo sho. I'm ready. CHOP,HACK,WELD,DRIVE!
Yea, the trunk is pretty good. Rust holes in front floor were patched w/sheet aluminum and roofing tar, whole floor covered in the shit. I think it actually helped save the floor from further damage.
love the dead possom If you end up deciding you need skirts pm me I have a set of 51-52 skirts that wont work on my 53 and I dont want to cut them they are OEM skirts and are in excellent shape. if you can dig up a set of 53-54 Ill trade.
I would try to find the vin # on the frame [ anyone out there know where it is located on the Chevy frame ?] Its not a good idea taking # off a difrent car.The law frowns on that,LOL.If you find it here in Colorado you can take the car to the State police and have it varified ,get a bond then you can get it titled. It is a hasstle going through all this crap.Old cars are worth a lot more if it has a title .Good luck, nice car.
These cars were titled by the engine number when new so thats all you need as you sead the engine is still in. pete
