I swear I can remember reading that copy of RC, but I was only 2 at the time?
...But, I like the thread. I've been thinking of something sorta like that, but with a pointy Bonneville style nose( 2 40 Ford hoods).
VW power hadn't occurred to me, and I even like 'em.
Man...I'm gunna be thinkin' all night again,

Hmmm??? When Volksrods first came out back in the '60's, they were considered very non-traditional, but does the fact that they date from "back in the '60's", now make them "traditional" in a twisted sort of way??? Eeek! Inquiring minds *need* to know!!! :D

the funny thing about time is, it adds respectability. just ask the Kennedy's. the old man made his money running whiskey out of Canada for the mobsters. gary

  5. Here's the one owned by a H.A.M.B member in my car club Thee Inland Emperors. It's either No. 2 or No. 3 built by Kent Fuller, and it's by far the funniest car to drive EVER! It's like driving an over sized go-kart that can pop wheelies.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up...

It might be borderline, or in a gray area of being On Topic.

But as long as we dont get multiple Volksrods Threads, I think they definately deserve some attention...

Rod and Custom did a series, on building a Fuller Volksrod,
including frame plans. Copies show up on EvilBay, just search for "Volksrod".

the rod & custom one was built by dragmasters for tom medley.
when i built mine i just cut the pan off the vw and the torsion ends and built a t bucket frame and put the rest of it between the rails at the back and welded it in. be sure you have all your parts to get the length right. the hood is 24 inches or a little longer if you want. the pickup bed is about 36 inches. it's best to have the body and the grille to see how it flows.
the front radius rods are like any other ones and then make a plate to attach to the torsion plate on the axle and just use any radius rods to attach to that with clevis'.
these are by far and away the easiest t's i have ever built. you can have a rolling ch***is in about a day.
just look at my other post.

I started building one using very light tube for the ch***is rails,a really early 1000 cc engine and trans ( all i could find at the time) a Ford Popular/anglia front axle with Cortina discs with stubs machined to fit and Ford Anglia steering box. The iadea being to build a T look trackroadster as light as possible for hill climbs etc . I had the ch***is rolling and shoved it under my House in New Zealand, where it still lays,30 years later... I wonder if I score could megamoney on fleabay from someone for my barn fresh/survivor rod?

  17. So, I happened by my friend's place today & although the above mentioned Volksrod is safely tucked away for the winter, I did happen to catch this picture of the sign that goes along with it.
It's stashed in the corner of a room upstairs in the shop & by the refection cast in the sign you'll see it's in good company.
sorry for the crummy picture but you get the general idea I think.

The new R&C, the mag which may as well be the bible on here, has two renderings of custom bugs in it. How off topic can it be?

....I THINK thats what I was seeing on a quick flip thru.......................

what a lot of people may not know is, the r & c vw rod had a buggy spring just like any other t. if i remember right, they had a problem with the coilovers working right, so they put a cross spring on the kick up and attached it to the top of the axle with shackels.
