I just bought a complete engine from a guy in Medford, Oregon. I need to find someone/machine shop that I can pay to crate and freight the thing to So. Cal. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Being in New England you may be thinking of how close together our states are. Going from Southern CA to Oregon is a little further than going from NY to CT even though they are both next door neighbors... How about posting here looking for someone going that way with a little empty space on a truck ?
Summit estinmates 170-180 from Ohio to PA for a crate Chevy. Not that that means anything. But it is a general idea of cost.
Long T, thats using their carrier discounts, etc. If you dont have LTL (less than truckload) accounts you cant touch rates like that. Strohmdl, I run a Traffic department in San Diego and have carrier discounts and more than happy to help you out - if you can have the guy in Medford crate it I can get it picked up and delivered for you - but its gonna be around $375 and thats ith my discounts. If you arent able to find anything better, PM me and Id be happy to help you out - I can also check with some of my independent guys here on the west tomorrow morning and might get lucky and have available space on a truck already rolling this way. Do you have a forklift and or could I deliver it to your work? Rates are a little better if not having to go residential. Hope this helps Sean
Thanks for the help everyone. I've decided to take the seller up on his offer to bring it down for $500. Seems the safest route to go. Sean, I'll PM you if for some reason things change...thanks again.
R & L Carriers Freight Lines have excellent rates. The guy in Oregon should be able to find a used pallet. Tom
Looks like this one is handled but something that some of you may not know about is dealership crates. If you have to ship an engine to someone a lot of times you can go to a GM dealer and see if they have any used crates laying out back from where they may have installed a new motor in something. I worked for one for awhile and we used to throw them out or take them home to use if the motor didn't have a core that required return.
