If there is anyone out there with any information on hot rodding a 1947 desoto coupe. I want to lower it and just the basic stuff disc brakes. I don't know which route to take to keep the original frame or sub frame with fat man sub frame or the rear end. I will post pictures soon. Doon't know much about fat fender cars just rat rod model A's. Any information from anybody would be great. Thanks again.
It's pretty much the same as a number of other "how to hot rod 41-54 mopar" threads. OEM IFS is good, disc brakes, relocated the upper shock mounts, about it.
My 48 dodge is very similar to your DeSoto. Stock suspension is good and rebuild parts are available. Disc brakes and Cavalier rack and pinion steering are easy mods.
This site is good http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/forumdisplay.php?f=1 I dunno why you'd need disc brakes, I think they stop really good
Thanks averyone who helped I think now I know the orad I'm taking with it will post pics as I go thanks
I have '48 DeSoto, 4 door. It has '72 Nova front clip (disc brakes), Plymouth Fury rear, 727TF ****** with 392 Hemi, ps,pb, set up for a/c but due to short funds, may be a while. Running gear was already there, except engine, when I bought the car about 9 years ago. Jack
Keep us posted on your build. I have some 47-48 desoto parts PM me if you need something. Trunk and brake lights, rear window gl*** and more.
My stock '47 DeSoto convert doesn't go fast enough to need disc brakes! But it does need sun visors, anyone?
Just put a 47 Dodge in my garage and from what i can find lowering is pretty simple, fatman uprights if you want to go discs otherwise cut or new coils front and blocks in back, posiesrodsandcustoms.com has some springs and spindles if i remember correctly too but those cost
