59-64 Impala Wheelbase

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Scotch Buzzard King, Jan 20, 2010.

  1. I need to know what the wheelbase is on 59-64 Chevys and if there is any difference between the models (i.e. Impala, Biscayne, Bel Air).

I dont know the wheel base but I do know that the X frame is the same on 59-64 whether its a Impala, Bel Air or a Biscayne. I think the convertible frames are just beefed up more but those will work to.

  3. Cool. I know that the wheelbase to a 59 is 119". If its the same as the other years, then I am in good shape.

  4. 58 wheelbase is shorter, so it's by itself
    59-60 are the same..
but I'm not sure what the difference is on the 61-64 the same

I think the difference is in the frame horns .. I would like to know myself!

After I mate a 60 2-door Bel Air Sedan body to a 63 Impala 4-door sedan frame, I'll let you know. I do know that 61-64 idler arms are different when they bolt to the frame as opposed to 59-60. 59-60 Wagon/El Camino frames have a removable brace near the fuel tank to allow removal of the tank. In the sedans they're welded in for good. I think it's just silly little details like that, but otherwise 59-64 is all interchangeable as far as setting bodies on one another. Only serious differences are the convertibles (beefed up) and Canadians (1-piece) frames. Oh yeah... and 59 frames have two more body mount locations than 60 and later.

Fishbeck- I dug through my stuff. Found some 59 dash panels but no 60... and none of the thin Bel Air style trim.

  8. In the book "Standard Catalog of Chevrolet 1912-1990," it lists Full Size P***enger cars as such:

    1958 Wheelbase 117.5 inches
    1959 Wheelbase 119 inches
1960 Same as 1959 data except for a 0.1 inch reduction in overall length.
    1961 Wheelbase 119 inches
    1962 Wheelbase (Chevrolet)* 119 inches
    1963 Wheelbase (Chevrolet)* 119 inches
    1964 Wheelbase (Chevrolet)* 119 inches

*(Chevrolet) Denotes Full Size Chevrolet P***enger Cars.

    I hope that helps...

I used a 1961 Belair 4 door frame on a 1959 Nomad. I had to move one set of rear mounts and lower the front ones. also the rear support is different. the wheel base is the same but there are differences.
