Damn didnt think it would be that quick! 1917 288ci 55hp Chevrolet. In a private collection/museum in Tanunda, South Australia. Here's a another oddball. Little became Chev and this is a prototype... i know its not a rod but the roots of the bodies still interests me.

just thought id spark some convo about the oldest of old v8s. I know its more something that would get a restorer hard but the origins of the bodies and engines we screw with interests me. Anybody know if there was ever a rod built running one of these? the old updraft set up to me is completely amazing
think you will find if you google that Cadillac made a V8 in 1914, so chev were after that. Also I'm sure some europeans were doing them around the same time too, so thier not the oldest by far. I'm also guessing that they weren't that good or they would have gone into production for longer than a few years. There are some weird takes on the V shaped motor from the early 1900's.
