those stupid little pins that you have to hammer in to keep the shackles from falling apart aren't wanting to go in on my truck. it doesn't matter how good everything is lined up, they just dont go, i even de-burred them a little bit hoping maybe it would help, but no dice.

my question is, can i just replace them with a nice grade 8 bolt?

2nd' i've removed about every other leaf out of my pack to help get the rear lower. Can i pull anymore or have i taken about as many out as i should, if i have to block the rear to get it where i want im not totally against that.

    thanks for your help guys

  2. I'll assume you have the notch in the pins lined up with the Lock pin hole. I've had issues with New lock pins on these before. I just put them in the Freezer over night then take them out one at a time and install them. They actually will shrink just enough to go in. I don't believe a bolt will do the job correctly. The lock pin is to keep the shaft from rotating as well as in the hangers.
On my truck I removed the front bracket for the rear springs and moved them up on the side of the frame and bolted them back with #8 bolts. I think it came down about 2" more.

Yea I have fought them also but have found that you need to have the notch in the pins centered in the hole. I can only get them in by getting my eyeball up in there and looking in the hole to verify the notch. You should not have to hammer very hard to get them in as it will damage the lock pin and you'll need to fix before trying again. I've found they will go in almost half way by hand if things are lined up. You would think the shackle pin might move a little on its own as the lock pin is going in but it doesn't seem to happen that way. Yea I don't think I would use a bolt either.

ya the bed is off soo i can look up in there everytime. it will slide in about halfway but come time to hammer, they don't seem like they want to move at all! jeff if you have any i might buy THOSE off you too haha

  5. I took all but the longest and the shortest leaf out. No more pins!

  6. How about a little more explanation on your comment, no more pins. It makes Zero sense.

  8. I'd be careful who you listen to. 2 leafs in a spring. I believe the spring wrap on take off would shake the drive shaft right out of your truck.

yeah, i have 5 out of 10, i may be able to lose a few but i wanted to ask first. this thing is really coming along now that i'm not using a fuel cell or elec. fuel pump. thanks guys!

  10. Sorry. The longest and the shortest spring. That put it on the bumpers. So I also run 10-15lbs in the air bags and about 30lbs when I'm towing my boat.
Spring wrap? Not an issue at all. Never any shake rattle or roll. Smooth as can be even under hard launch right up to 90mph.
Put a ton of miles on it. S10 rear, bone stock TBI 350 + 700r4.
Not sure how no pins does not make sense. Only two leafs. Longest helf in position by shackles and whole thing held together with stock U-bolts.
    Picture is without bags installed.

i was asking about the pins that held the shackles together, not the locators on top of the leafs. cool setup though... i've heard a lot of crappy things about air over leaf. you say you seem to like it?

  12. Ya, works great. Tied air-shock. Used them for one week, they where crap. Bags give a nice ride and I can actually haul stuff. I know, wierd for a truck.
I know which pins you are reffering too.
