i'm going to switch out the 5-speed for a 700R4. i know, i know...but i'm getting tired of fighting the slave cylinder/clutch setup. i've had the standard in there for 3 years now and i've had my fun grabbin' gears. i want the 700R4 with the overdrive for the highway driving. here's my question, i got a line on a tested 700R4 with the torque converter at a local bone yard. they asked me if wanted the electronic version or non-electric. i told him i wanted the non-electric version, thinking that i don't have a computer system on the coupe. what's the difference between the two, electric and non-electric? which should i go with? also, i think i want to add a 2000 stall converter, what's the thought on my street performance with that setup? thanks for the help guys, mike

up to 88 the th700 would be good to use on a carb engine - 89up there's too much electronic
some stuff you'll need to swap a th 700 are
    -- a good ****** cooler
--converter lock up kit (speedway sells them for 115.-) or you can lock em witch an extra switch, but I prefer the kit
-- driveshaft (att. there are 27 and 30 splines)
    --tv cable

    completely different items.

The converter stall speed is what the engine RPM may rise to with the trany in gear, brakes on , foot on the gas pedal...The lighter the car, the more stall needed to avoid the car/engine pushing against the brakes while stopped with ****** in gear.

Lock up kit is a kit that you can use to lock up the converter clutch when in over drive of the 700 ******. Yes, it is wise to run a lock up converter. There is a pressure switch to use and solenoid for the pump with wires to lock up the converter clutch. Then you can apply a live 12 volt source to the ****** and it will lock up in Over drive when the ****** shifts to OD

You DO NOT need a computer to operate the converter clutch in a 700 / 4L60 ******.

There is a TV cable to the 700 that MUST be hooked up correctly with the proper pull on the cable at the carb / EFI linkage... This cable tells the ****** everything!!! Shift points, main line pressure inside the ******. It MUST be hooked up

Yes, definately make sure the tv cable is correct, I have wiped out a couple of boxes by having it just millimeters off, and the 700 MUST have some kind of lockup installed, failure to do so will burn out the pump and the converter( i know from experience).Good luck, and check the ratios, some of them came with different first and fourth ge****ts. If you can get the number off the box have a dealer or someone look it up for ya.

the 700 does not come with different gear ratios, only one set since the 700r4 was introduced

    Few things:
    1) a 2000 stall is only a little higher than stock, in your light coupe it may be better to go with a generic 2500 stall. Make sure you keep the lock-up functioning.
    2) I am pretty sure the 27 vs 30 splines is referring to the input splines, the early ones were 27 and the later (better) ones were 30.
    3) the question of electric vs non-electric is referring to the valve body. You need a non-electric (hydraulic control) valve body. Unless you want to add a computer to control the trans, stick with 89(?) and earlier. One of the trans experts can verify the year when they switched from hydraulic to electric.

The 86 Camaro trans is fine, but will have extra monting bosses on the tailshaft for the torque arm used in Camaros, you can leave them or cut them off if they cause interference. Like said, run the TV cable and set it up correctly.

1993 was the first year of the GM 4L60E ******, full electronic control of shifting and internal pressures. GM trucks received these

The 4L60E has a 1.5 inch electrical connector on the p***enger side of the ****** case.

Non electronic 700/4L60 have a connector on the drivers side, usually a square 4 hole type. 1993 Non electronic controlled 4l60 had a round 5 pin connector on the drivers side. [IMG]
