I have been wanting to run 59 Chevy Belair, Biscayne or impala tail lights on my 30 sedan and finally found a good pair for a good price. Buddy Grits said not to run them cause they would look like **** and be to big... so I measured them.... Gosh DAMN those are big lights... 25 inches long and 7 inches tall. I knew they were big but did not care, but that is too dang big...

So my question is.. what other lights look similar but are smaller...like 12 -15 inches in a tear drop shape. I thought about running aN Indian Motorcycle tail light, but those are smaller than i want...

    Let hear it men... Thanks

Think about 58 BelAir taillamps. Dual lenses on each side and nice stylish chrome housings.

First of all, what syle is this thing supposed to be anyway? '40's? '50's? '60's? I've seen ch***is shots, but nothing specific on the overall plan. Fenderless I ***ume?

I can't imagine and kind of long tail light in a sedan. Horizontal, it would be like cutting the panel in half and look weird. Vertical would be odd too, with the continuous inward curve to the bottom of the body. you have to tunnel the **** out of them at the top to keep them straight. And if you mount them up high to prevent the deep channel, well that would be weird too.

Keep it round or oval, and under 6" in diameter.

'58's would look great. I said the same thing to Grits when he was sending you that PM the other night.

Eric , my plans are fenderless, SBC,700r, 40's steel wheels painted w/ spyder rings and caps, body chopped 3-4 inches and no channel, top hood, no sides

the best part about 58 impala lights is that they'll hold your license plate too.

Sounds like late '50's early '60's then? It'd have to be some kinda crazy show-rod style for lights that big to work.

How about instead of '58 tail lights, try '58 Chevy front turn signal housings. Been done before, but looks great.

I agree, those 58 front lights would be a great choice, just make sure not to set them to low.

  13. Tony sounds like you are leaning in the custom direction. Look good at the lights and then take some sheet metal and make your own bucket only smaller. Then you can throw a couple of bullets in there. You get the same effect.

When I was a kid the '58 Belair lights were popular and I think that they would still fly today. A very good option. Simple and clean. I might lean in that direction frenched. But the other option is also viable.

    Your choice I guess.
