I've been thinking of using the flathead I have lying around in a way I haven't seen around.... I rly dig flatties in Mercs and shoeboxs, why not in my Biz coupe?

I can't be the first to have this idea, is it just blasphemy?

I'm sure most are going to say it's wrong... I say screw it and go for it. Traditional...Probably not, but is it more fun to drive a car or sit looking at a bunch of parts?

It's the automotive equivalent of marrying your sister.

The late Tom Senter ran his Blown Ardun in a Gen II Camero at Bonneville. The very successsful team of McCain and Houtz ran their flatheads in a Pinto for many years. The rossbred idea is not new.

I gotta agree. The swap only seems to work in one direction Chevy to ford not the other way around. Flatmotors as cool as they are were inferior back then to chevy motors. The reason for the swap from chevy to ford was for more power. Wouldnt make much sense the other way

All those Fords running around with Chevy engines, I don't see why this is so bad.....

It could always be worse, there was a picture flying around the 'net last year showing a 2nd gen Corvette with a flathead....that was too weird.

  16. I like oddball stuff more than most but, this makes no since to me. Doing something radically different because it's the way it needs to be done for your application is one thing. Doing something radically different just to be different is just stupid. Not that I'm a purest. I have a '51 Chevy I plan to put a very healthy Pontiac in. It just seems like a giant leap backward, there's nothing to gain. I'd rather put a built I6 or even a V6 in an old Chevy.

As for this coment I'll just say Eeeewwwwwwwww!

I'm putting a 8BA in 55 willys overland wagon. Offy even made addapters for that swap.
I almost put a flathead in a 66 Mustang. Sold it before I did it, but it was in the making.

  19. FLATHEAD MERC IN '57 CHEVY!
My friend (Mike) had a Merc flattie plugged into a '57 Chevy 2 door some years back. His dad was a car guy and did the work. Mike, just outa high school I think, got his deceased grand parents '50 Merc - like new it was! Well, Mike stacked it up against a bridge on a rural road one night. Was beer involved? I think so! Rolled that sweet car! So Mikes dad dropped the flattie into a '57 Chevy! It was a 2 door post with a tired 6 cylinder stick shift. The car ran well but looked kinda weird when you looked under the hood.
    Shoulda took pics...

This strikes me as something you might see in Cuba, just to keep a car on the road. But, not here. Put that flathead in something MORE deserving, and I'm a Chevy guy. Find an early 60's Falcon, Ranchero, or Ford/Mercury station wagon, and do the C-4 conversion with the flathead. Make it something you'll be praised for, not rediculed. Just my opinion. Thanks for the input everyone. It's good to hear things from rly experienced guys on here.....

Guess i'll stick with the original plan: parts picking for a suicide front end fenderless project. Have some parts already.

I've tons of things I wanna do to my biz coupe before I even start looking for a decent body for the next project tho!

Wouldn't go C-4 behind the flathead, or put her in anything newer than my '50! The T5 sounds like fun, even behind my 216 to liven her up.

i think you should save the flathead for a better project. But i have to say i think it would be interesting to see an 8BA in a 50 Chevy.

Save the flatty for another project, go straight 6 for your chev

  27. Trade the 350 chevy and the flathead for a 302 six banger and then you will have something.

I'll trade you a good Briggs&Stratton for the flathead.
People would REALLY like that in your Chevy!:p
All kidding aside a good hot Stovebolt 6 with dual glass packs would rule.
Much less headaches to do too unless you're just "queer for punishment".
