  1. Yeah I thought that BlueBear was funny, had some funny one liners now and then, but that kid has to be one of the stupidest ****s around I've seen in a long time...I know that it is "made for tv" and all, but he seriously had everything handed to him on a platter and said a big "**** you" back to the guy that handed it to him...what a loser... Just cos he doesnt want a Boydster doesnt mean he cant build a safe trad rod with pretty much ANY parts he wants on it.. I agree with standidng up for ones values and beliefs but surely that numb nuts could have compromised with boyd and shown him a little respect...I am pretty sure Boyd is not like he is on the show in real life, or he wouldnt actually have people working for him at all, and he must be a little smart to build the name he has for himself, so surely that chad could have compromised with Boyd instead of being a stuborn idiot... dont get me wrong, I'm not PRO Boyd or anything, just a little bit dumbfounded as to the stupidity of some people...oh well, c'est la vie.....

Was Boyd even saying that EVERY frame has to be boxed. The little bit that I've seen, I think he was just talking about BlueBear's particular frame. And it looked like freakin' Swiss Cheese! It seemed pretty obvious that that frame was not safe.

It's too bad that there was no communication between those two. I could see both view points. Boyd wanted it safer than he thought it was, and BB wanted to stick to a more traditional look. I think a compromise could have been reached.

I was thinking ‘what if you put a C-channel in the frame so it’s still open on the inside?’ I could tell that BB had some thoughts on how to make it safer and still have the look he wanted, he just couldn‘t communicate his ideas to Boyd. I don’t know whose fault the lack of communication was… maybe both of them?

I’m sure that BB is happy at his NEW job, I know I would be happy there. “As the billet turns” won’t be the same without him…

  4. Think mebbe Boyd and Bluebear could be related?

Relatives seem to get either a lot of leeway or none at all.

I'm just too jaded to believe anything on TV, Just wonder if he is "really" fired. I mean, who's gonna let the whole world see you get canned. sounds like that stupid Trump show that I never watch. If he is axed for real, than he can't have more that 2 brain cells, and they're probably fighting each other. It would have been a small concession to have a sweet flathead, and all the other t*******s Boyd was footing the build for, Although I suspect Discovery was kicking in the bucks for that.

So where is his new job anyway? Did he go with Charlie to Chip's?, and did I miss the episode when Charlie left?

I don't understand why they can't just build hotrods the way they rebuild and "hotrod" old houses on the popular and long running series "This Old House."
All that fake Jerry Springer Show at***ude **** tossed in to waste what could have been the on screen show us how to build time is just stupid.

    I don't watch "Reality TV"
It insults my intelligence and wastes my time.

(Id rather waste time reading **** on the HAMB.... [IMG] )

Boyd should have listened to the idea of the plate being further in the frame. it would still have been strong. I am on bluebears side about not wanting boyd to control his build. Boyd needs to go bankrupt again and disappear. Boyd would have still won the build off because of all the idiotswho saw him on TV would have voted for him even thought they dont know anything about hotrods.

I like the idea of the boxing material being recessed into the frame edges.

An older , wiser Bluebear would have come up with a better solution.

Boyd should have offered a different idea or 2 to simply strengthen the frame up some.

An engine mid plate to the frame, or boxing plates with oval holes in them.... many ways to strengthen a frame.

You know I see alot of guys talking real bad about boyd coddington, Boyd this bluebear that. Let me put this in perspective from a young broke hotrodder point of view. Me im always short on dough for rod parts, I have to sell something to get something else. A small matter like boxing the ****in frame rails is rediculous. I think I could compromise if someone was flippin the bill for my chopped and channeled flathead powered a bone project. Thats just ****in stupid. Also, Ive meet boyd coddington when I was a kid back in the early 80s through the early 90s. He donated several sets of wheels to my dads club "Rod Knockers" San Diego to raffel of for charity. His style of hot rod aint my kinda rod. but dont ya think yall are being a little jelouse. Come on he made it. Just cause we dont like his style doesn't mean nobody should. thats whats so kool about this thing of ours. the diversity. Sorry about the ****in novel. Drew

my opinion is that bluebear is a ****ing idiot, and i wouldn't let him come anywhere near my car...bob

  12. Well like I said before, Boyd if you read this, tell the Discovery Channel to get lost. They are editing your show to make money, to sell ads, that is what its all about. In this day of reality shows, their must be animosity to draw a audience, which sells advertising. Boyd you might think your gaining something but judging by your past "business endeavor" which led you to bankruptcy and screwed a bunch of investors, It maybe time to ***ess the long term benefit of your show...and play it safe.

My thoughts are this ."Don't bite the hand that feeds you"and that guy was being fed more than just food or money.Blue Bear was just plain stupid on this. The peiod of car he was building,if it was a quality car would have had a boxed frame or at least a partial box. Some can try and justify his actions and at***ude and the only reason people are ,is because it was Boyd who he was up against but Boyd was flipping the bill on this.So he should have some say when it comes to safety.70+year old unboxed frame rails and 800 miles don't add up!!Thats just looking for disaster.

They are both idiots. I realize Boyd cut his teeth a long time ago but he has no skills when it comes to hands on. But when you wear a ring that cost more than my annual salary who would want to risk scratching it by actually doing some work.

Bluebear: I think Bluebear is cool and really has that simple garage build mentality. What he doesn't have is respect for other people. If he was not such a self centered *** and had some respect I bet him and Boyd could have reached a compromise. I was raised in a strict household and now I am in the military...one thing I have learned is whether you like someone or not (your boss especially) you should still speak with respect. Then you wait until you see them after dark and beat the **** out of them...ha ha ha.

    My two pennies are done.

Seemed to me that plates with the 1 1/2 or 2 " holes in them would have been plenty strong and traditional! Neither side wanted to budge an inch...so they both lost the fight.
I also say when you work for someone you need to be respectful...BB was not! He deserved to lose his job.

"IF" B.B. had any brains and he wanted to stick with his convictions he should have went along with B.C., he would have had all his parts paid for and a free trip and more exsposure for his budding hotrod career. Then when he got home from his free trip go to the next swapmeet and buy a cherry stock frame for $250.00 and build it just the way he wanted it, transfer all those free parts over to his frame swap the body and drive it work. I also think the C-channel boxing would have been the ticket for beefing up the frame and it works well just look at the so-cal frames they use it.

All I have to say is who looks at a car and says "that car would of looked good if he didnt box those frame rails". I think some one is just being a stuborn ***. Pick your battles. Dumb***es all of em.

  25. Fat Hack said (and I agree)...."So, I admire Bluebear for sticking to his guns and stuffing it in the face of the Great Boyd Coddington...shows a ton of moxy and "take no ****" at***ude...I like that."

Besides....Boyd was wrong. Boxing the frame the way he wanted the kid to do it wouldn't be any stronger or stiffer than what Bluebear agreed to....adding a doubler to the web of that channel frame so he wouldn't lose the "traditional" appearance.

Boyd ("I'm not a ***** but I play one on T.V.") Coddington's offer wasn't genuine. He challenged Bluebear then made up the rules as they went along....

O.k I have seen people harping on Blue Bear for the last few weeks and biting my tongue. It is know time to set the record straight and give some background on the infamous Blue Bear. What some people dont know about Blue Bear was he was showing up at Boyds shop when he was still in High school, wanting to learn how to build "hot rods" we all gave him the "get the **** out of here kid". He kept showing up, his persistence paid off. Eventually I taught Blue Bear how to Tig weld, fit tubes, make templates, basic fabrication skills. He graduated from high school and started working full time, the kid was actually doing it! Eventually like Blue Bear, Boyd and myself had a difference of opinions I ended up quitting and starting my own shop (circle city hot rods). Blue Bear kept at it and developed a taste for simpler more traditional style cars. (he said my coupe was a big influence). Blue Bear had a car that he bought (the model a) with his own money, and he scavenged and saved for the rest of his parts. Boyd comes along and decides to do the rat rod build-off. And this is were the problems start coming in. Blue Bear has his vision of how he wants to build his car, He has been researching reading the old mags, and paying attention to traditional cars. I dont know about you guys, but when I envision a project that I have been thinking about for years I stick to my vision. Blue Bear didnt want to change his vision, I for one think that is cool. Another thing that you guys dont see is the behind the scenes stuff, You just see the drama that the Discovery guys show you. I am not trying to brag, but I have been building hot rods for a pretty long time now, and I know the difference between an unsafe ****box and a decently built car. Blue Bears car was a pretty nice car. It was probably built better then most of the people that are talking **** on him on this board could build. I also suspect that you guys dont know of all the hours that he put in working for Boyd, not getting a cent of overtime. Or how he was sick of building plastic kit cars. Or how American Hot Rod portrayed him as being the village idiot. Yes, Blue Bear works for me now, I wouldnt hire someone that couldnt do the job or that built unsafe cars. The people that know me on this board know the kind of cars we build, and the quality I expect. I am really pleased with the fact that Blue Bear and I have come full circle, he is now able to build the style of cars he likes, in a better atmosphere. I personally invite any of you to come to my shop anytime to see the real Blue Bear.
Sorry about the rant, but I felt I had to set the record straight.
    Jimmy White
P.s. Dont think Blue Bear has some kind of dirt on me, and I have to stick up for him, he is a good kid that just wants to build real hot rods.

They can follow any one of us around with a camera for a few months, then edit out about 15 minutes that make us look like a total ***. Tell BB I liked his A and hope to see it on the road.

Hi Jimmy...Well written response, but I have one question.
The "show down" so to speak, between the Bear and the Boid, was not staged for the cameras? Thanks.
