An old guy I got to BSing with, starts telling me about an all br*** 440 a buddy of his had in a mid to late 60s mopar. Tells me 2 months after they bought it Chrysler tried buying it back from him. Anyway some super low production obviously if even legit, I googled it and found nothing. Is this for real, or a BS story?

That sounds like the old carburetor story where the car would get phenomenal gas mileage and the manufacture bought the car back because the carb was a prototype and it got sold by accident. You fill in the make, model and manufacturer.

Never heard of anything like it ever. But then again, I didn't know of the stainless-steel '36 Fords. But a br*** '60s Mopar engine? I don't think so.

I have been really heavy into Mopars since I was a kid in the early 70's.

  10. This thread is some funny ****..

  11. I'm not'n special, but I have been messing with big Mopar stuff for 35 years here in the Detroit area. I have gotten to know a bunch of Direct Connected people (pun intended) and a br*** engine block of any kind has never come up or been spoken of. I get a big reading on my B.S. meter here....
Besides, given the relative strength of br*** compared to steel, how long you reckon it would take for all that "long arm" power and torque to find its way out of the confines of the br*** block?
I say it doesn't make it outta the bleach box alive...

sounded like BS to me too, but the guy is almost 90 didnt have the heart to question it, he got that sparkle in his eye when he was telling us about it. Was saying it was some concept/trial thing. Funny how many responses and so quickly. The great myth debunkers!

  17. A experimental engine just happened to slip into a production line vehicle? Doubt that!
There's too much tracking of "skunk works" products, even back then. Think about it, spend a bunch of money and time on R&D just to turn it loose and never be able to ***ess how well it works in the real world. Doubt it.

I've only personally seen two "experimental" GM engines in the real world. Both were owned by HIGHLY connected GM people, one was Mac McKellar. He owned a Pontiac 421 OHC in a '63 Grand Prix.

And on top of that, I doubt br*** would be strong enough for a engine block.

    I'm thinkin BS to.
Br*** melting points 1652 degrees but is still a soft metal when casted. and has a low tensil strength.
Where as Aluminum A 356 gels at 1100 degrees and it has a tensil strength of 32,000 psi.
Im not saying it wasn't possible but not practical for an engine block to be cast with br***. easy distortion, wouldn't last long in my opinion. just threw in my 2 cents... and I bet it would look perty! :D

I call total Bullsit on this.I used to know a guy that could top that story easily. He had the nerve to tell me that he once owned a 55 T-Bird that had every bolt and nut on the motor in a perfectly straight line .He said that he notified Ford about it and they called it "one in a million".He also told me that he had a 312 in a 57 Fairlane that ****ed all 8 of the piston tops off ,when he down shifted it hard one day.It was hard to keep a straight face and talk to the guy ...:p

is it possible to br*** plate an engine block?

i think it was Mopar Collectors Guide that ran an article on the aluminum 318's. i could be completely off but i think they were late model 318's for Dakota trucks or something, not early stuff.

O.K. so we've figured out the story is most likely false. I 'aint no enguneer or nutin' but is a br*** engine possible? Has anyone heard of one by ANY manufacturer? Ever? How about those old steam engines? What would be the benefit anyway? C'mon you really smart guys, learn us something !!

I heard those br*** engines use cast iron freeze plugs. Brits used bronze heads heads on some hi performance motorcycles until they figured aluminum was better

I had one just like it, except it was an Oldsmobile and I had it in a side wheel paddle boat. It don't have any pictures, and the ship sank while carrying a load of experimental Hemi powered golf carts. It's probably still at the bottom of Lake Berymaikokiner, if anyone wanted to go find it.

  26. Oh come on guy's, what about all the cars that we see roll across the block at the B-J Auction every year that obviously have solid gold blocks?

Did you notice that the guy telling you the story was lying on his back on the floor of the bar at the time?
This is my favorite kind of liar: he's not only telling you a lie, he's telling you that you're so stupid that you'll believe him.
