I have a TH350 no lock up or nothin, I just got the hot rod running for it's maiden voyage and I have no second gear. If I put it in drive and go then it winds out first then shifts to third. I bought this car used and of course they said the ****** was just rebuilt. I can try to manually get second and when I do it just goes into neutral. Does this sound like for sure internal or is there anything maybe with linkage or anything else that could cause this. Let me know if you have any ideas.
I'd get a new, junkyard trans from a wreck. Put in a fresh filter and a new converter/ vacuum pod. That one is missing something, some check ball, metal shaving stuck in a spot, something.
well.. you could always try and put some ****** goo in it like lucas or K+W or somthing like that.. its worth a shot. and if it doesn't work your only gonna be out like 10 bucks.
I had one that did that exact thing it's an easy fix- on the side there is a round cover with a snap ring -open it up - in there is the governor it's probably stuck -clean or replace it -this fixed the one I had! good luck
There should be some trouble shooting guides on the net and there are some good turbo 350 books available. Such as this one which you might find and read through at the book store http://www.themotorbookstore.com/turbo-hydra-matic-350.html I'd avoid the snake oil if at all possible. I'd have to wait until I get home from work to check my turbo 350 book that I have stashed in the garage but someone might give you some pointers by then.
the intermediate roller in installed backwards if it naturalizes in second. easy fix if your mechanical. stand it up, sit it in a 5 gallon bucket. remove the pump bolts, you can kinda **** the bolts in the holes after they are unscrewed all the way, one on each side, and use a heal bar and pry from side to side easy till you see the pump moving, be sure to hold the input shaft, the center shaft, hold it down hard, so it wont move inside. pull the pump out, you will see a large set of clutches and steels, remove them, you will see a snap ring holding on the hub that the clutches where splined on, that hub should turn clock wise and lock counter clockwise. just pull the hub out one the spring and roller element inside, just flip it over. its easy. you could have a valve body problem, but most likely its the roller in backwards, good luck,
Thanks Elwood and rodridgemike for the suggestions. They both sound like a good possiblity. I can try the governor first since I don't have to pull it to do that. If not I will do the other suggestion. If that is not what it is then I will have to take it to someone who builds them. I'll let you know what it ends up being.
hey koob i been building em for 35 years, im in grand prairie, bring something to smoke and ill show yu how to fix it. anytime..
