Anybody out there in HAMB land figure out a good diff choice/rear susp set up on one of these cars that allows some tire on the back? I'd really appreciate any frame shots you may have. thanks and all best
in my 40 plymouth I use a 74 buick apollo rear end. Best way to find what you want is to measure from drum to drum (or outer leaf spring to outer leaf spring) then go to a junk yard with some older vehicles and measure away. You can try to do some research online... took me about 1-2 weeks to find out the buick apollo is what I wanted. That apollo rear end allows me to have P265 65 R15 tires on some rare enkei wheels.
oh and as a side note, do some wheel research to find out what the offset of the tires you like are.... that will judge how big of a rear end you want. if the are center lined 8 inch wide wheels, then add 10-12 inches to your outer to outer leaf spring measurement. 5-6 inches allows for the tire to have enough clearance so it doesnt rub up against the frame/fender well
I used a 8 3/4 from a '68 Cornet on my first 36, and an early 90's S-15 Jimmy rear on my current 36. The Cornet fit great and didn't even have to move the spring perches, it bolted right in. The Jimmy, I had to make perches for. I've also heard that the early 70's Dusters, cudas and Challengers fit, but haven't measured them personally. Your coupe looks great. You could use a set of quarter panel patches, listing 190367329887 on a certain e-vil auction site. Bob
My '38 Chrysler has a Ford 8" out of a Granada on the original springs. Just had to weld new spring pads onto the diff. I put discs on mine easy & cheap. Not as much room under the fenders as you'd think. 205 width tires was all I could fit.
