Looking to see the best way to lower a 63 Caddy. Not looking to air bag it just lower the stance. Did you cut coils? How much? Has any body Replace coils with coils from a lighter model GM car? and when you lowered you Caddy how much did you lower it. Pics would be great here. Thanks

  2. i was going to lower my 64 cdev with lowering springs.
    check ebay:)

  3. I lowered mine when I had it by using a torch to heat the springs, but you have to be carefull when you do it this way as the springs sometimes keep dropping after you remove the heat, so you have to rotate around the car and do each spring a little bit at a time. Not sure this can be done easily with out it being on some kind of lift where the car sits on the tires.

i would say definetly cut the springs if you wanna go over 3 inches in my 64 i went to the junkyard and picked up chevy 1/2 ton coils for the front and i put jeep coils in the rear and if you put toxic shocks on there it will ride better than original ive done that to a 65 my 69 and my 64 and it works great also if you cut them 1 inch is about 1 coil so you can just see where you want it and cut accordingly

I would rather replace the springs with a lighter spring to lower it cause I find cutting coils the car will lose it ride. Not going to heat no springs.I find that unsafe.ratcaddy65 Would love to know more about the Chevy 1/2 ton springs and the jeep springs. What model and year Jeep did you use? and did you cut the 1/2 ton springs or the jeep springs? If so,how much and how low did the car drop from stock? I am looking for a base to start from. I played around with later GM car and trucks and 1 coil was about a 2 inch drop.Is this much the same with these heavy cars??

the 1/2 ton truck springs were shorter witch droped it about 2 inches but then i cut them about 2 coils to drop it two more and the cherokee springs are shorter and i cut them to but for a small drop they would have been fine but mine is like 5 lower in the back and 4 in the front and on my 64 i cut them alot but i plan on bagging it so it was a mock up but i would for sure use toxic shocks because mine ride better than stock without that cadillac sway

Just wack 2 coils outa the front an rear, if ya use a cut off wheel you dont even have to take the front suspention apart.

start with 1 and see were ya end up. If you do it in the car you can cut halves out of it till it sits were you want to. Thats how I did my 61 62 64 . Works for me most of the time its 2 in the front and one in the rear.

I took 2 1/2 coils off on mt 62 cadi...after a year or so the coils started to sag
was a pain in the *** to get around ! Just pulling in parking lots....Sliding in on the frame
after nailing the cross member on cracks & **** in the road I bagged it .
BEWARE HOW MUCH YOU CUT !!!!
I think they sell a clamps for coils.... Just tighten clamps to lower.
Mybe some knows more about that ?????
