I figured if I asked the question on here I would get straight answers one way or the other and since I am building a traditional rod here is the place to ask. I started with A bones and was going to drill them and use cowl steering. The placement of the sprint unit and the fact that this car is for the ole lady I decided against the sprint unit mainly because of the quick steer. I then purchased hairpins and still wanted to go side steer so on here I found info on a chrysler box and installed that more centrally on the cowl. Now I can get the bones to work out with the pitman arm. Here is my dilema, I can cut 4" off the ends of the hair pins and rethread them or build another bone and have them plated, expensive and time consuming. I'm not rich but I will save up to build the car right and labor is free. I don't know what to do what do you guys think? If I go the A bones I will be selling the hairpins and batwings.
I would probably shorten the hairpins so the rear pivot point is in line with the pitman arm. I would keep the draglink in a horizontal line with the hairpins. The hairpins would work as is but maybe a little better in line plus look better.
i'm a big fan of hairpins usually. But I have to tell you, those bones look sick! I think you should go with the bones. my 2 cents
Im not a huge fan of hairpins, and I dig the way the A bones look...Id make them work. Reminds me a bit of my coupe
It's the site, it took damn near 1 minute to enlarge the thumbnail pic. I know the boss is probably pulling his hair out trying to fix it.
Built my car in the early 90's. 4 bars were the way. If I was not so beat up i might try to uninstall the 4 bar. I like the split bone. But the bracket seems low to my eye. $00.02
I'm sorry, but those hairpins don't work on your car...bones are cleaner...much better....my opinion.
Actually to get the 7 degrees they will be mounted on the frame. Keep them comming, bones are winning.
In my comment he simply asked what to do. I gave him my thoughts. Not to cause hurt feelings but I to would pitch those hairpins and get a set with a little finesse, or go to bones.
Hairpins -- but saw off the part of the rear threaded boss that projects forward in front of the bends. Bob
I have always like hairpins, but the split bones you have really make the car look a heck of a lot better than the hairpins. Besides, the hairpins are too long by almost 8/10", they should be right at the cowl line as it meats the frame. If you wold only take a couple of inches off the hairpins you would need to put a brace on the hairpins. Are those hairpins over 36" long, they just look way to long on your car.........................another vote for bones!
if i could build my car over again i would go with the hairpins, but its your car so you know what is best
Bones all the way, but have you thought about the drop from the pitman arm to the steering arm? Not sure its problem...but the bone and drag link wont be parallel. Any geometry experts out there? jj
Bones! Hair pins are like altenators, they work good, but who wants to see an alterator on an nastalgic engine. Just my opinion, great job the car looks bitchin
